Resumo: The city has about 70,000 inhabitants, is known in Italy and abroad for the production of a typical PDO bread, for its cathedral, great example of Apulian Romanesque (XIII century) and extraordinary paleontological discoveries of global interest. The territory is included in the National Park. It is the largest valley. Among other places of interest in the city it’s important to mention: the Megalithic Walls, the old town with its characteristic cloisters, many churches and historic buildings. In the local context is now established and accepted the presence of foreign volunteers and EVS not only, as they are engaged in several other projects .
Perfil: The project is open to all young people between 18 and 30 years, regardless of sex, race, social class, political or religious orientation. Special skills aren’t required, although it will be appreciated the interest and any experience in working with the disables, his patience, availability, creativity, initiative and adaptability and enthusiasm. Volunteers have to be able to follow the principles of the activities promoted by the organization the centrality of the person as a bringer of rights as well as duties, respect for the person that is the attention to the habits of life, privacy and, finally, and not least the importance of human relations, volunteer, together with the team, will be committed to achieving a comfortable and familiar atmosphere , enhancing interpersonal relationships. The selection process will be carried out in a transparent and democratic manner with the sending partner and the organization of coordination. The selection of volunteer will be based on the voluntary submission of his application (CV and motivation letter) by the entity sending. The project opportunities will be promoted through the website of the association of co-ordination and international networks of which he is member. We are open to cooperate with any partner.
Tarefas: The volunteer will be an active part in the implementation of various rehabilitation activities carried out in structure, to support educators and support for users. The activities carried out within the Rehabilitation Socio-Educational Centre, revolving around an important principle that is also mission of the entire organization of the service: to ensure the right to quality of life. Personal dignity is not an abstract aspect of individual but an awareness that the subject should be brought to acquire, through a series of actions and transactions carried out independently.
Motor activity and football: the objective is the acquisition, enhancement and improvement of some aspects of the area of motor skills, sensory area. The organization realizes the sports type of preparation, aimed at the user participation in the Games Regional, National and International organized by Special Olympics, international sports association, which organizes competitions for people with disabilities. The training takes place in a network with other facilities for the disabled, as well as voluntary organizations active. As for the Football, the teams are made up of people with disabilities and "partners" (volunteers who play in the team). These participate in regional and national tournaments.
Hygiene and self-care: this activity has the objective of maintaining, upgrading and promotion of the health of the individual through the proper care of themselves and their appearance in order to reach a state of complete physical, mental and social welfare. Laboratory from the ground to the plate: in this business you work in order to teach the basic rules of "healthy eating". Be aware of the characteristics of the foods that we find every day on our tables, necessary to maintain a good state of health and wellness to develop a positive attitude towards food, to promote the personal autonomy of our users, and to create in them the motivation to do something for others and for themselves how to prepare a meal.
Social autonomy: with this activity aims to encourage the gradual development of the autonomy of the disabled person, through the knowledge of the area in which they live and use its services. The team expects that users are able to interact with the outside world in an increasingly independent and correct, establishing relationships with ordinary people, government offices or businesses.
Art and creation: through the free expression of their creative skills or helping the development of the same users are taken to reach several types of rehabilitation objectives. In this activity, each person can give free rein to a variety of artistic skills (drawing, painting, etc.) And manipulative (object creation, accessories, etc..).
Music and theatre: has the characteristic to engage and capture the interest of the individuals with the most diverse forms of disability, sees as its primary objective to give space to the expressive potential, emotional and social skills of each, in accordance with the characteristics of the individual.
Magazine: is one of the most captivating for users and at the same time one of the richest of educational potential. The preparation of a newspaper makes participants protagonists of a motivating activity with regard to communication, in which the act of writing takes a real meaning inter-relational. The newspaper of the organization. is also a tool for knowledge outwards to what takes place in the structure.
Laboratory of emotion: presents itself as a useful tool for the recognition of different emotions, the ability to communicate and thus control them when they can be defined as a negative for the balance and mental well-being.
Farmability: it is an activity realized outside and this one takes place in farms alongside the productive activity. People with disabilities can benefit physically and intellectually from direct contact with nature and the active involvement in the work of a typical farm.
Computer Lab: considers the computer as an essential tool to facilitate communication and establish new interactions by means of the Internet. In addition, the computer is a tool that facilitates the work of other disciplines to the user who has difficulty in ordinary writing with paper and pen.
Individual activity: users perform individual activities directly realized with the individual user and aimed at cognitive, relational and social learning.
The volunteer will gradually be placed in the context of the organization. It will initially be formed to a correct approach with people with disabilities and then immediately promote knowledge of users attending the structure, the working methods of the team, spaces, roles and rules within it. After this phase, there will be an observation period for the volunteer during which he could better internalize the information previously learned. Finally, the volunteer, assisted by an educator, will be introduced in the daily life of the Centre, in its relations with users and the realization of activities. The volunteer will have an active role, working with educators to achieve the targets set for each user. In some activities, it will be the "diversity" of the volunteer concerning the outside sources to be stimulus and source of curiosity for users. Examples could be the different labs: From the Earth to the plate, where the volunteer will become a central element as the bringer of different dietary habits of his country, thus creating an exchange "food - cultural" with users of the structure and teaching them how to prepare their own traditional dishes; Emotions, which will serve to show the cultural differences in the expression of various emotions; Sport Activity, where the volunteer will help users in the creation of the exercises proposed during the training by the technicians of the Special Olympics, showing them how to realize them and guiding those who present more problems in their movements. In addition, if in possession of technical expertise in the development of sports (and as athletics, football) the volunteer will become in turn ‘ technician’ assuming a more important role (our technician and partners carry out their activities in Special Olympics in a completely voluntary). On the occasion of the Regional and National Games of the Special Olympics- as a trophy- the volunteer will have the task both to accompany the users in the conduct of races and to be an active part in the organization of the events. Important role is the Social Autonomy lab where he will support users during the scheduled outings outside of the context of the structure. This activity may be a source of mutual support: Users will become the hook for the volunteer in implementing an integration with the local culture, helping him in his own input, while the volunteer will assist and advise users to realize the 'activities’. In Magazine lab the volunteer will be responsible for helping users in the drafting of the articles, in the beating and distribution, can also be the bringer of new ideas, reflections, stimulus to create innovative products in the magazine.In the Computer lab his job is to help educators passing on the necessary knowledge to users to be able to use the computer in an appropriate manner and increasingly autonomous.In the theatre lab, volunteer, thanks to his different geographical origin, may share with our users musical styles and music coming from his territory of origin, which may be included in the production of theatrical performances.He will cooperate in the ideation of the show, in the creation of the scenes, costumes, acting, creating invitations and posters depending on personal attitudes held. In the Art and Creation he could freely make available any their artistic skills and creative , supporting users in the laboratory and proposing the creation of new ideas. In Farmability activity he will be alongside users in realizing tasks given by experts and he will provide teachers with creative ideas proposing activities if in posses of any expertises on plant care, gardening and growing vegetables.
Horário: The volunteer will attend the structure from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 16.00 to 19.00 in the opening days of the centre (Monday to Friday). He will have two days per month of vacation, he will be a part of the team, even if with limited roles and responsibilities than those of professionals, participate in team meetings to propose ideas and convey his point of view and he could support the operator during the transport to and from the Centre but he will not guide means.
