Resumo: The host organization is a well-know environmental organization in Latvia. Its mission is to create a social movement that not only supports environment-friendly ideas, but also puts them into practice.

We work to inform and educate people about environmental issues, to involve them and to encourage them to change their everyday habits to live a more sustainable lifestyle. Our main activities include social campaigns (“Latvia – the greenest country in the world” and “10/10/10 – Global Work Party”), non-formal education for youth and activities (workshops, excursions, movie nights, discussions). We cooperate with various partners to develop and promote sustainability guidelines for offices and events.

The organizationwas established in 2007. At the moment, we are five people working in the office, and we have a board of three people. We have a trusted network of about 70 local volunteers and hundreds of followers and supporters. We collaborate closely with (inter)national NGOs, local authorities and municipalities of Latvia. The organization has a good presence in traditional media (magazines, news portals, radio, TV), and active social media profiles on Facebook (in English), Twitter (in Latvian), as well as the local social network.

Perfil: • ready to spend one year (from March 2015) in Latvia;

• 18-30 years old;

• able to work as part of a team;

• passionate about the environment;

• ready to organize creative events and social/PR campaigns;

• and willing to inform and educate kids, youths and adults about environmental issues…

Tarefas: POSSIBLE TASKS OF THE VOLUNTEER:
• EVENTS & WORKSHOPS. Organize workshops (together with our local volunteers) on our Green Floor or during third-party events (for example: creative upcycling workshops, movie nights, excursions in the city or into nature, lectures by guest speakers, etc.). Develop new ideas for our portfolio of possible workshops.
• PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES. Support the organization:’s ongoing projects and campaigns. You will be given a role in our activities depending on your skills, interests and experience.
• WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA. Maintain the English(/Russian) version of the organization: webpage. Write a blog about environmental issues. Post updates, videos and photos on our social network accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Draugiem.lv).
• COOPERATION WITH (INTERNATIONAL) PARTNERS. Build partnerships and make contacts for future projects. • OFFICE WORK. Responding to e-mails, copying/scanning, updating databases, preparing documents, participating in planning meetings, support Latvian EVS volunteers going abroad, managing the library. • PHOTO & VIDEO. Document our events/activities and make promotional material.
• GRAPHIC DESIGN. Create materials (posters, flyers, stickers) to promote sustainable living and environmental topics.
• LANGUAGE & CULTURE. Teach language classes (EcoEnglish) or organize workshops about your own culture for Latvians.
• INFORMATIONAL CAMPAIGNS. Educate and inform people about environmental issues and organization:’s activities.
• YOUR OWN INITIATIVES. Be creative! :) (These are just examples of possible activities for EVS volunteers. Your project will be designed and made according your personal skills, interests and learning objectives.)
