Resumo: The main theme of the project is “European awareness” as the service will allow volunteers to become more conscious about their role in a European society and will enlarge children and youth knowledge about Europe. Our objectives are related to the possibility for young foreigners to share their experiences and cultural backgrounds with social workers and to use them to develop new skills by helping in regular activities but also by proposing innovative ones.
In return for their active participation, the young people involved in the project will have the opportunity to get in contact with Italian culture but above all acquire personal and professional competences in the social field.
The methods applied- as in all of EVS projects – will be that of active participation of promoters and volunteers in all the project, above all in the design of the activities and identification of specific tasks which will be adjusted- as much as possible – to the interests and skills of the young people involved in order to ensure an effective learning process.
Perfil: Age: 17 until 30 years old
Tarefas: The social cooperative has many different activities involving children and youth (from kindergarden to live-in communities) but decided to involve the EVS volunteer only in the ones related to very small children in “casa famiglia and adolescents in “cento educativo”. In these places, the presence of foreign youth has proved to be really useful and even though some years have passed from the last EVS, the cooperative hosted some Spanish Erasmus trainees who were a real added value in the organization.
After selection process takes place, the first volunteer coming in February 2014 for 6 months will take part in a pre-departure meeting where s/he will receive more information about EVS and project activities and in collaboration with Paolo Babini all the volunteers doubts and questions about the project will be answered. The same will happen later for the young volunteer coming in September: all the necessary information about the project will be given beforehand so they can be prepared and know what will be expected of them and what they can expect from the Activity.
The program of the activiities of the volunteers will be made very clear so it will be easier for them in the first weeks to cope with the situation and to integrate to the organization. Later the volunteers will be given more initiative so that the more they will want to do something on their own, the more they will be able to do so. During the first weeks of the project volunteers will also get to know the organization better. The volunteers will always be helped by professional educators who will give them methods; volunteer will be guided in a “learn by doing” process and will always be assisted and supported by a tutor. The activities of the volunteer will cross over all the activities of the organisation and will mainy concern the kids both in “Casa Famiglia” (morning – taking care of smaller children) and “Centro Educativo” (afternoon - study groups and leisure activities with adolescents). Moreover, together with the educators, volunteers will be asked to stay with the young people during the trips and holidays, horse-riding or skating, outside games, summer activities.
The service requires a daily engagement, with two days off per week (usually Saturdays and Sundays) and also 2 days off each month in addition to that. Volunteers will work 30/35 hours from Monday to Friday including the hours of italian course (see attached timetable). From mid June to the end of July, when schools are closed, the “Centro Educativo” is open all day long (9:00 – 19:00) and the presence of the volunteers (morning or afternoon) will be agreed according to the planned activities but will never go beyond the 35 hours per week. The educators usually create the right situation for the learning activities through a context of signifying relationship between children/adolescents of the same age. Volunteers will also be asked to take part in organizing the workshop and Atelier: the workshops are places in which young people “learn by doing” and “do in order to learn” (e.g. corporal expression, the creation of objects, music and art)
The volunteers’ role will always be that of supporting the educators, sharing with them all doubts and questions regarding the educational aspects if the service and the operative tasks. Volunteers will be asked to plan individually some leisure activities getting involved into the initiatives of local volunteering groups linked to the centres. During the project the volunteers and their mentors will meet regularly to discuss the project and resolve any possible problems. In the end of the project the evaluation will take place where the results of the projects are discussed and in addition the volunteers will be given the Youthpass
