Resumo: The city has just over 700,000 citizens and the whole metropolitan area is roughly one million citizens. In terms of number of residents, the city is one of the the largest cities of the country. In every district there is access to city transportation, shopping centres, hospitals, banks, police units, post offices, sport clubs, cafes and restaurants, night clubs. In the city the volunteers can benefit from a wide range of low budget-free time activities, for example students' cafes, informational centres with free access to libraries and Internet, alternative art clubs and houses.
Volunteers are accommodated in the volunteers' flats or hosting families within the city. Every volunteer has his/her own room and access to basic facilities according to Moldovan standards of life. Volunteer will be paid monthly food allowance to cover the food expenses and will need to cook at home.
the host organization office is situated in the center of the town, which helps getting there easily from almost all the districts. In the office are working 36 people, which speak fluently English and also Romanian and Russian ( the most common languages for Moldova).
Perfil: Age:17-30 years old
Tarefas: The working week, (Monday – Friday, the working hours: 10:00- 17:00), of a volunteer will consists of the following implemented activities of administrative and assisting type:
- providing administrative assistance in the office: logistics, maintaining the files, updating mailing lists, post, faxing, copying
- updating information on our web page
- when the volunteer will learn local language s/he can help with translations and proof reading of the documents
- assisting with research on specific topics: human rights issues, civil society, NGO development, youth initiatives, and civic participation upon request of supervisor/ unit managers
Additionally depending on the on going projects of the organization volunteer will:
- be involved in assisting project coordinators in organizing logistically all kinds of events: trainings, seminars, conferences, roundtables, other. S/he will get acquainted first-hand with all the organizational and logistic stages of a successful training event. Involvement in such activities brings multicultural exposure to the volunteers, as well as a feeling of recognition.
- finally, to develop, self-initiatives, the volunteer will manage a clear-cut project in line with their skills, personal interests and goals; This will also be an opportunity for them to develop their own ideas.
In order to support the learning process , volunteers will be given assignments and responsibility commensurate with their experience and they are referred to a supervisor/tutor, who is responsible for mentoring and coaching. They can be given short assignments either designed within on-going programmes or on an ad-hoc basis. The volunteers will learn how to face institutional, personal and social barriers. They should profit from the experience of the team and be able to contemplate what they have learned.
Thus, the expected learning outcomes are:
Communication and Teamwork Skills – Specifically through the task allocated to the volunteer at the host organisation it is expected that s/he will improve his/her skills in this area. S/he will have the opportunity to work closely with the staff of the host organisation but importantly also with its target groups..
Administrative and Organisational Skills – As part of his/her role volunteer will be helping to organise meetings and events. S/he will be fully supported in all tasks thereby giving him the opportunity to further develop the skills s/he has gained from previous experience.
