Resumo: The city lies on the north side of the Pivka basin at a favorable location. Important travel routes are conducted here is the most important passage from inlands to the sea. The city has long in the past become an important outpost for travelers and merchants.
Nowadays the city presents itself as a modern, tidy and friendly city with its natural, cultural and historical peculiarities still attracting many visitors. The city is rapidly becoming the world center of karstology. The Karst research institute and the Museum both preserve and display karst treasures, each in its own field.
We must not forget our aces, the The city cave and the castle, which are the basis of our tourism.
The volunteers staying with us for a short period of time (up to 6 months) will be accommodated in the Youth Hostel. They provide all the quality standards for this type of accommodation – a 2-bed room and three meals a day. The hostel is located in a park, not far from the town's center, close to all the important institutions. For volunteers staying for a longer period of time an appropriate accommodation at private facilities will be arranged.
In any event, will try to agree with volunteers about the options available in advance, and arrange the most optimal accommodation according to their wishes and needs.
Ad COMPLEMENT TO THE REMARK No.2:
Social life – we will show volunteers the possibilities for spending free time in the city (library, sports center, youth clubs), as well as the possibilities of public transportation around Slovenia. The mentor will be responsible for this, as well as the local youth volunteering to spend time with them.
Integration into the local community – the mentor will take care that volunteers will meet key people in the local environment. As an organization we will also make sure to inform the public as to who is visiting.
Perfil: The person we wish to host should:
- be of age (18 or older)
- be communicative (basic English skills)
- be emotional
- show initiative
- be innovative
- have some experience
- be creative
- have a non conflict personality
- be prepared to help
- embrace teamwork.
There will be an open and transparent choice process, as one of our interests is to host volunteers who wish to contribute a certain added value to our community that will be visible, and at the same time for volunteers to have a feeling of their humanitarianism, prudence and dedication. In case of 50 or more applications, a choice will be made according to previously set and publicly displayed criteria. The choice commission will include the project coordinator, the assoiciation's president and an outside member.
Partners will be chosen when the need for hosting volunteers in the local environment emerges, based on questionnaires.
Interviews will be conducted through Skype.
Ad COMPLEMENT TO THE REMARK No.4 – the choice process is explained in detail above – in the case of multiple applications, a 3-member commission including the coordinator, the association’s president and an outside member will make decisions. We will only insist on volunteers to be of age, other criteria can be somewhat bent. The decision will be based mostly on volunteers’ self presentation and their reasons to visit our organization.
Tarefas: Upon volunteers' arrival we will offer them a course in the Slovene language for easier communication in the local environment.
We are in talks about volunteers working there as guides, so tourists could have a guided tour in their native language. Other possibilities for payed work include the local museum, the Karstology institute and different schools. In any case, we have enough interesting content (clubs and organizations) in the area to be able to prepare the best program possible. In the case of volunteers with less opportunities we would encourage them to cooperate with the local NGOs addressing those issues.
They will be able to help with various events in our main organization. Music lovers will be able to create and practice in our own music studio. The same goes for video enthusiasts. Help will also be needed in organizing various workshops for the deprivileged, where the voluntees will be able to express their own views regarding the topics presented. An extra helping hand will also be welcome in the upkeeping of the existing facilities.
Volunteers will be given a chance to implement their own project, which will be integrated in the local environment, with the help of the mentor and the coordinator as well as the mentor in the company.
Volunteers will have an 8 hour work day, and will have to show effect of their work in the company as well as in our organization.
For all their activities and achieved skills, volunteers will be awarded the Youthpass which will greatly help them in the future.
Ad COMPLEMENT TO THE REMARK No.3 – it is a difficult task to provide an accurate timetable, asat the moment that would be just guessing without any solid foundation – the final timetable will be provided in applications for prepared projects. We will of course follow the guidelines for volunteers not to work more than 38 hours per week. Basically the volunteer will work within our association's public hours – Tuesday through Saturday in the afternoon, with Sunday and Monday off. Meetings with the coordinator will be held on Tuesdays, meetings with the mentor, on the other hand, will be held once or twice a week (as needed). We will define volunteers' work obligations inside and outside the organization collectively. We will make sure that volunteers have enough free time. The work plan will also take into consideration the time needed for volunteers' individual projects as well as time needed for the Slovene language lessons.
