Resumo: An important urban development took place in the 70’s (residential use). Population: 69439 inhabitants (26554 young people aged under 30 years, that is 38% of the population. Other interesting characteristics: high educational level and 9 active youth organisations.
In the Youth Council of the City Council, through the Youth Centre , we want to carry out actions with the aim of:
Enabling the proximity to different ways of creation and cultural expression
Enabling the acquisition of specific knowledge and abilities
Offering a meeting place for communications and relations
Offering educational possibilities for free time.
Responding to the demand of municipal services
Managing that youth come to the youth centre, so they know and use all the resources at their disposal
Creating meeting places for relations and participation out of courses hours.
Creating communication and relationship channels between youth and the organisation
Reaching a sector of youth not specially motivated to participate
In principle, we want to host 2 EVS volunteers/year in projects of about 10 months, in the mornings, from Thursday to Saturday (Secondary Schools) and in the afternoon, from Monday to Friday (Youth Mobility Activation) with free weekends, except punctual activities, in which case 2 free days would be given during week days. Holidays: 2 days / month of project, plus local and national holidays. Participation time: 35h/week, approximately, including language and specific training.
Volunteers will live in the city, so they can integrate and relate with local people
Perfil: Age: 17 until 30 years old
Tarefas: Due to the characteristics of the centre in which voluntary activity would take place, volunteers have:
The possibility of learning about the youth policies and actions at a local and European level
The possibility of learning in the training and leisure activities organised by the Cultural Centres, such as training courses at the School of Entertainers (free time entertainers) and photography, dance,... workshops
The possibility of interacting, being in contact and knowing youth from the area, thus ensuring the intercultural dimension and promoting European awareness and citizenship, essential aspects inherent to the aims of the EVS
The possibility of developing their social and personal skills
The possibility of learning Spanish language, in Spanish for foreigners offered by the Education Council of the Town Council
Volunteers represent an added value to the tasks carried out by the technicians in the Youth Council, who will constantly support them. They may get involved in the design, implementation and evaluation of the different programmes in which they participate.
Volunteers may participate in the following activities:
1. Support at the Office for International Programmes, the organization informs and enables the participation of youth in different international experiences and is a way to facilitate mobility outside the town. Apart from coordinating different actions of the YiA Programme, in different international and local initiatives (volunteering abroad, youth exchanges in other European cities, support to projects created by youth...), it also informs and counsels about the different possibilities to work and study, participate in language courses, work-camps or traineeships abroad.
Thus, volunteers may collaborate with the activities of the organization through:
Support in conversation workshops: we have conversation workshops for English and French in which they may participate to liven up discussions
