Resumo: The host organization is located in an urban area, in modest Finnish way. People are mostly middle-class and the area is quite peaceful with several social and health service providers are located here. The people in the area are not very active socially, politically or religiously, so there is lot of things to do for our little association. Our people are well received in the community because we do work in the people's gardens, we make the environment aesthetic and we arrange social activities.
Our international volunteers live with host families, which are not related to the organization. We are not able to house any volunteers at the moment.
Perfil: Motivation to work with people with special needs. Good social and learning skills are appreciated. Any own interests or hobbies are welcome to be included and shared with the residents (music, art, cooking, tailoring, handcraft, sports, etc.).
Age: 17 - 30
Tarefas: The volunteer works as an assistant in a housing services of a non-profit non-governmental association which provides housing-, education-, and work activity services for adults with learning disabilities. The housing services consist of three units called A, B and C, each of which provides a home for eight residents. The volunteer's tasks include assisting the residents in free-time activities and providing a clean and aesthetic home for them, participating in the community and activating people in it as well as other daily activities. Working hours are mainly in the evenings and weekends.
Condições: Accommodation: The volunteer stays in a host family in the metropolitan area. Flexibility and motivation to live in a host family as well as to interact with the family members are needed.
