Resumo: The organization is an established not-for-profit organization and it is operating in 3 cities.
The Documentary attested since September 6th, 1206, the city was settled by western colonists arrived from
the region. Hardworking and entrepreneurial
people, they cleared forests, drained marshes and created over time,
despite historical setbacks, a flourishing community. Center point of the
village was the present fortified evangelical church, whose foundation was
laid around 1250. Until the union of Transylvania with the kingdom of
Romania, the city counted over 1800 inhabitants and the German-speaking
population was in majority.
Perfil: We intend to tailor the work camp so we can ensure for all volunteers optimal
conditions of satisfaction in the personal welfare, quality of learning and
emotional insertion in the associative actions. At the end of the action, the
young people involved will be proud to have participated in such a project,
the experience gained will strengthen them physically and mentally, giving
them expertise and practical skills they will use later on, complementing their
personality: principles of camp organization, arrangement of a dwelling,
individual and group management, identification and use of various work
tools and equipments, principles of labor efficiency, elements of history,
architecture and constructive aesthetic.
Age: 18 until 30 years old
Tarefas: Our association intends to establish a permanent camp on a plot of 10.000
m2 located on a hill guarding the village, near the edge of a forest.
The camp will operate as an experimental archaeological site, having as aim
of building an architectural complex which would imagine the XIIth century
fortified manor belonging to the hypothetical founder of the city.
On this building site organized as a medieval village, the volunteer will be
able to blend construction labour with learning ways of medieval stone and
woodworking, returning 800 years in time and recreating the life of a Saxon
settler. He will also interact in various instances with the local community,
taking note of a self-sufficient the rural community life-style, its
cultural habits, old traditions and attempted insertion into modernity. The role
of volunteer will be that of workforce for the project in question, but also of
emblematic factor of visibility for the camp site, creating and feeding the
interest of inhabitants in the history of their village. They will be informed in
detail and will be able to tell further about the historical context of the
construction, about the double capacity of the Saxons as settlers and
defenders of European civilization, about the concept as
focal point of medieval re-enactment activities and revitalization of ancestral
crafts. A typical workday will consists in: morning briefing with tasks of the
day, dividing the working groups (stonecutters, carpenters, masons, householders)
under master supervision, carrying planned actions and individual
tasks outlined and illustrated by master, then, when the work program ends,
informal meetings with young villagers, club and personal hygiene activities
at the the organization headquarters or rest within the camp.
