Resumo: The volunteer will live and work at a village community where several organisations provide care and support to children in need. The village is a small, rather isolated village in the countryside. It has approx. 650 inhabitants, many of which are children and teenagers. The village has its own community centre with a café, sport & performance facilities and a meeting space for youngsters. The village itself does not have any shopping facilities. The nearest shops are in the towns (7.5 km) and other town (7 km). The volunteer can cycle to these towns or take a bus. The closest city (14 km), which has a historical city centre and lots of leisure facilities (museums, sport clubs, theater etc.). The village and its beautiful surroundings offer lots of opportunities for cycling and walking. Because the village is quite isolated, the volunteer is always placed with at least one other volunteer. Together they live in a small house in The village. They have their own bedroom and share the living room, kitchen and bathroom/toilet. The volunteer can walk or cycle to his/her workplace.

Perfil: Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The organization provides two different placements for volunteers, each with their own service & learning opportunities, role and activities. These are therefore described separately below:
(1) Children's farm
Service and learning opportunities
Living and working at the village and the children's farm contributes in various ways to the learning process of the volunteer. The most important service and learning opportunities at the children's farm are:
" the volunteer will improve his/her capacities, knowledge and skills in the area of guiding, motivating and interacting with children & teenagers with problematic backgrounds.
" the volunteer will also learn to look after different kinds of animals and other farm work.
" the volunteer will know more about the Dutch care system for children with problematic backgrounds and the care vision of the village.
" the volunteer will be able to communicate and work with people from different backgrounds.
" the volunteer will become more independent and able to run his/her own household.
" the volunteer can understand and speak Dutch.

Role and tasks of the volunteer
The volunteer will work alongside professional staff and other volunteers at the children's farm. At the children's farm the young visitors can see the animals, help with looking after them and pet them.
The children's farm has chickens, rabbits, hamsters, goats, sheep, a mini cow, donkeys, horses, swans
etc. Around the children's farm is a big play area, with swings and other playthings. The volunteer's
tasks at the children's farm are:
" cleaning the stables
" feeding the animals
" milking the goats/sheep
" maintenance of the farm buildings
" guiding the young visitors - who have different kinds of disabilities - with activities at the farm,
" such as giving information about the animals, helping them look after the animals, supervising
" them while playing in the play area etc.
" helping out with birthday parties and school trips that are held at the children's farm
The above-mentioned tasks will comprise about 2/3 of the volunteer's working week (24-26 hours per week). The remaining working hours will be spent supervising a small group of the children of the local primary during their lunch break and helping out at the community centre, for one morning/afternoon a week. This includes office work and running the community centre café. Both tasks will be done with the other volunteer at the village.
