Resumo: The host organization is located in a small town with 12 000 inhabitants, 60 kilometers away from the most important port of Croatia. The picturesque town situated on a 320 meters high hill about and only three kilometers from the seaside, was inhabited already two thousand years. The rich cultural and architectural heritage of the city is enlivened by number of art ateliers and by the bustling youth gathering around the old town. The city is not only charming for people interested in sightseeing, art, cultures, it is also an ideal place for people who love the nature, since the town is sourrounded with mountains and hill, with amazing hiking roots.
Near the city, there are several villages and towns well worth seeing. The transportation system of the region is fair in the area especially in the summer however the best oporrtunity to discover the surroundings is through bike or motorbike. Rabac is at the seaside, the island is easy to reach
The town welcomes a high number of turists every year, however the economy is based on industry and on the activity of wide number of SME's. The inhabitants of the town are very welcoming, they live a very active social life. There are a number of various associations on different topics, such as arts, hiking or the coalmine, who always welcome people who are interested in their activities. Several activities are organized for the youth as well such as Council of Democracy, exchange programs, arts, photography and sport events. These events attract a high number of students, not only from the city.
The office of Youth Association is located in the heart of Old Town, wich is perfect place for history and art lovers. The office will be the volunteer's central position, but the she/he will be sent to various places in town, and also to Croatia for trainings and school visits according the project.
The accomodation for volunteers is situated 10 minutes by walk from the office. It is a dormitory that has private second floor of the building with lots of space and it used to be a student center once. Every volunteer will have his/her own room with wireless, but they will share kitchen and lavaratory with other volunteers. The building has his own repaireman and woman that is in charge for cleaning. In front of the dormitory there is a big park which is eligible for volunteer to relax or do some sports.
Perfil: In Youth Association the volunteer will have the opportunity to work in team but we also ask our volunteers for independent, individual working. The volunteers also may create workshops for young people, and participate youth activities. That is why we are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated, self-reliant, responsible, tolerant and open-minded volunteers, who fulfills the following criteria:
- aged 18 – 30
- high interest in children and youth work, youth politics, art & culture and youth information
- good communication skills
- willing to participate the social and community life
- be ready to travel and participate in outdoor activities
- would like to help creating and implementing projects for youth
- interterested in different culutures, intercultural learning and
- mature to work and to relate to other young people with fewer opportunities and willing to develop activities with sense of responsibility
- willing to share his/her expriences and culture with everyone
The recruitment of volunteers will be done through an open call for applications which will be posted on the website of Youth Networks. In this way we can reach a high number of of possible applicants and it guarantees that we can always choose the best applicant for the position.
The association will also ensure a transparent selection process. To choose the volunteers we put a particular attention to the motivation letter, to the CV and to a previous communication (phone or e-mail) to clarify different issues. Since 6-12 months is very long time we want to be sure, that the volunteer know her/his duties and she/he has to accept her/his tasks. In this way we can avoid the possible conflicts and struggles regarding the volunteer work.
We don't have any special whishes regarding the Sending Organization. We are open for any kind of cooperation since we believe that organizations with different profile can always open our horizonts. We would like to build long lasting strong cooperations with different organizations which may be also a base of other projects. We find it also very important that the volunteer stays in touch with the Sending Organization because solving some problems is always easier with the assistance of people with same cultural backgrounds.
Tarefas: Youth Association provides a basic, initial training for volunteers at the beginning about their new environment and about their work in our team which includes:
- Social and cultural integration: introducing the town, services, some social clubs, sport and entertainment opportunities
- Training about the Association Work: what is our profile, Who is who? in the association, what is the exact task of the volunteer etc.
Since is a small town there are no Croatian courses in town. However there are lot of enthusiastic and motivated young people, and also teachers who would teach the volunteers in TANDEM-system. In this way not only the language training is ensured but it is may also be a base for new friendships for volunteers and local people as well.
We will also assure for our volunteers training opportunities in cooperation with other organisations in Croatia, where they can improve their skills and also extend their social networks. In our team the volunteer will definitely improve her/his soft skills in team work, independent working, presentation and public speech, communication skills and creativity. Besides the Volunteer will gain a comprehensive insight into the organisation and daily work of the Info Center and its projects, she/he will learn the different aspects of youth work in Croatia in a theoretical as well as practical approach, and also how to create and implement European projects. Certainly it is a great opportunity for young people to improve their language skills as well.
The association primarily needs volunteers to help the work YOUTH Information Center of the Istria Region, to help creating and implementing European projects, to organize workshops for local youth about European Union, tolerance, cultural differences, sustainabiliy, interculutral dialog etc. The volunteer will also help to organize cultural, arts and sport events in town.
Examples of tasks
➒ work in Youth information center and gain a comprehensive insight into the organisation and daily work of the center and its projects.
➒ support us in researching information
➒ help young people to get the information they are looking for
➒ help in the design and the editing of information documents on activities and services of the Youth Information Centre
➒ development of different projects for youth: organizational work from planning to evaluation
➒ help with the areas related with European mobility, searching for new European partners, and in inductions of the new volunteers
➒ support organization to implement different educational and inclusive activities and workshops for and with young people
The option for a personal project will always be available to the volunteers, together with the assistance of their tutor a personal project can be developed. It could be organising a new workshop, implementing youth project, starting a study group… The volunteers will be involved from Monday to Friday in the activities of the association for a maximum of 35 weekly hours. Usually weekends will be free. Sometimes, anyway, there will be events that will take place during the weekends, in these cases, the volunteers will have day-off during the week.

- Working in the Youth Information Center of Istria Region
- Organize workshop for the stundents of the local high school on the topic of sustainable development
- Monitorging and feedback of the workshop with the Supervisors from school and the mentor of the Organization
- Croatian Language learning – Native Language Teaching
TUESDAY
- Working in the Youth Information Center of Istria Region
- Creating and sending newsletters for our partner organization
- Sport evening
WEDNESDAY
- Attending Regional Conference of Youth Organizations for Istria Region
THURSDAY
- Preparing workshop for students
- Radio interview on the local radio about given topic
- Helping with administration for the Youth Info Center
- Croatian Language Learning Native Language Teaching
FRIDAY
- Cultural program in the local museum
- Preparing workshop for young people
- Weekly Assembly of the Youth Association
All activities and tasks will be in agreement with volunteer. Our aim is to establish good contact with volunteer, in order to understand better volunteers own needs. There will be meetings between mentor and volunteers once each two weeks for the first three months, eventually postponed once a month for the rest part of EVS, due to volunteers expectations, needs, activities...
