Resumo: Initially the volunteer’s time will be very structured, but they will be offered the opportunity to develop a project which is of particular interest to them, such as an arts or cultural project, a language course or sports group. We will support the volunteer in developing this, but will allow them to take the lead in it, thereby improving their organisational and development skills.
Perfil: - age: 18 until 30 years old
- interested in working with disadvantaged individuals,
- who could bring something of their own experiences and culture, to enrich the hosting project and local community
- basic knowledge of English
Tarefas: Primarily the volunteer will spend their 30-35 hour working week at activities in their project. This may also include language and role training, volunteer team meetings, staff team meetings or team days, etc. Timetables/rotas are agreed in consultation with the EVS volunteer, the project manager/supervisor and the coordinator/mentor. Annual leave entitlements accrue at the same rate as a other project team members (i.e. EVS volunteers get approximately 2 days of annual leave for every month volunteered, and also are entitled to take Bank Holidays).
Once the volunteers have settled into their roles, they are also given the opportunity to diversify their project if they wish to. This may entail visiting or doing a joint activity in another project for one day a week. In the past volunteers have got involved in other aspects.
At the organization EVS volunteers will work alongside and be part of a team of full time staff and part time volunteers. All of which will work together to provide a safe environment and the best possible service to the young street homeless service users of the service. In particular by hosting volunteers we hope to open new possibilities for the project and its service users. The project staff is often tied up with providing the basic service required (e.g. preparing meals, ensuring health and safety etc.), however, the volunteers are free to focus on additional activities which will benefit the service users. One major aspect is simply to take time to listen and talk to service users, sit down together with them and have dinner or watch T.V. Further they could also try to engage service users in other activities, such as playing board games or cards. It is also important to stress that under no circumstances the volunteer would be left alone in the service and will always work closely together with the project staff.
Furthermore they will gain a broad range of experience extremely beneficial to their future life and personal development
Condições: If meals are provided at the project where volunteers are working, their meals will be provided on activity. On top of this volunteers will be given a food allowance (included in weekly pocket money payment). Volunteers will prepare their own meals in their house, in a kitchen, shared with other volunteers.
The volunteer attend structured English language training (where required). A young person arriving as a volunteer may initially wish to undertake an in-house provision, before gaining the confidence to move onto a more structured college provision.
Where required an in depth language assessment will be completed to determine the most appropriate linguistic training for each volunteer. We will provide relevant inhouse training and we will also try and facilitate them to gain competences or qualifications in other areas of interest.
Volunteers are offered a single room in a shared house. We currently let one 7-bedded house with 2 separate
bathrooms which is located a short distance from the Centre. The house is fully furnished and equipped with bedding, pots and pans etc.
Volunteers will be provided with a weekly pocket money allowance. Initially, the allowance will be paid weekly by the finance officer. Volunteers will be given support to obtain an Irish bank account so that direct deposits can be arranged.
