Resumo: Sirveta regional park is not big – 8754,66 ha. There are 67 villages and individual, isolated homesteads in the territory. The organization is located in the village, where the estate celebrate a 19th century was established. Only “manor”, granary, chapel and three cattle barns have remained of all the buildings that belonged to the estate. In times of serfage was designated for serfs, where they used to eat, sleep….
Both organization and visitors centre moved to the formed granary after its restoration. This building is the oldest one – built in 1867. Stone wall mosaic has preserved in quite good condition. There is an exposition inside the visitors centre named “Mythology”. A Tree of Life represents worldview of our ancestors to nature, all the surroundings. It can be also found in local legends and sagas…
An individual workspace for volunteers will be given in organization. There is plenty of space and recourses for that.
One of the buildings will be reconstructed to a school of natural sciences and crafts in the nearest future (by the end of 2014 or so). So, there will be enough space to bring ideas to reality.
A shade of lindens – a natural monument of local significance is located in the territory of estate place. 30 linden where planted in a perfect circle, along with others trees in the estate territory in 1925 – 1926. Landlady of estate used to drink tea in a shade of lindens, liked to welcome quests here.
There is a forest nearby (this forest belonged to estate, actually). There are sightseeing walking path and barrows witch have been set up in this land in a distance past. There are 30 preserved barrows – they are the graves of our ancestors. The found shroud evidences that ancestors were buried in the 9th-12th centuries.
Not many local people live in the village these days. Most of them are elderly people. It becomes more animated in summer or in some feasts time. There is a local kiosk if one needs basic food products. Nearest bigger town is about 6 km from here – there are shopping centres, a post office, a museum. Town is located about 90 km from capital Vilnius.
The bus service is quite limited with these towns. Volunteers could live in the village town and go to town with organization staff (all of them drive to work passing through the village).

Perfil: We would like to receive volunteers who would:
• be interested in country culture, cultural heritage, nature, ecology.
• Be able to communicate in English or/and Russian.
• Like hiking, travelling and explore nature, learn about it
• be ready for some physical work
• be able to work independently, and plan own activities

Age between 18 and 30 years old

Tarefas: Having acquainted with the park’s territory, environmental, cultural heritage and the exposition of the park visitors’ centre, the volunteers will be able to conduct guided tours for foreign tourists and later to country groups as well.
The volunteers will have an opportunity to learn not only country language, but also to learn, to experience ethnic archetypal songs of this area. These songs are called Sutartinės (from the word “sutarti” – means to be in concordance, in agreement, singular sutartinė). They are highly unique examples of folk music. They are an ancient form of two and three voiced polyphony, based on the oldest principles of multivoiced vocal music. Two staff members are involved in folklore band. There is the opportunity to some ethnical music instruments from this territory – “dambrelis”, “dūda” or country bagpipe.
Volunteers will assist the park’s specialists during the monitoring of biodiversity. There are 9 territories assigned to the organization. Most of these are forests, marshes, vast fields, big ponds for birds. Specialists are observing populations of many species that are found in country red book – buzzard, Ural owl, great snipe, ruff, black stork, black grouse, capercaillie. It is a great opportunity to make acquaintance with wildlife, real nature, the eastern territory at least.
There are monitoring of landscape and of visitors too. So, volunteers will also assist the park’s specialists during landscape monitoring: photographing and marking landscape changes, pieces of cultural and environmental heritage, counting numbers of tourists taking cognitive paths, archiving the pictures. The collected material can later be used for photo presentations in the visitors’ centre.
Volunteers will be asked to prepare information and create a booklet about regional park in English or in their native language. Also they could participate in a recording of local legends and sagas in english, and help organization staff with this idea, maybe expanding it in some creative new level.
Volunteers will help the regional park’s specialists to manage cultural and natural heritage. Some of these activities require a physical work, such as carrying branches, trash, sweepings look up after campsites etc.
Volunteers can establish friendship with local people, who are raising sheep, goats, breeding dogs and help in their farms. One of organization’s priorities is activities with children of local schools – trips, tours, lessons about nature and culture and others educational programs. New ideas and knowledge would be welcomed. So, there will be opportunities to learn all the time.
