The placements are hosted in cooperation with The Protestant Church. The Church coordinates the voluntary year programme. Selection, interviewing and placing of volunteers at the organization is the responsibility of Togetthere. IMPORTANT: Volunteers cannot apply directly to the organization , they have to that through The Protestant Church!

The volunteers also need to write a letter of motivation and provide three references (for Roma volunteers less strict rules apply). Each volunteer is interviewed by the Protestant Church voluntary deptment. In the interviews, specific interest is paid to the reasons why the youngsters want to volunteer. The projects involve close contact with people and requires volunteers that are dedicated and eager to be involved. In the matchmaking phase, the different required skills for the projects are compared with the compentencies and interests of the volunteer. When a potential match has been made, The Protestant Church informs the contact person at the host project and the mentor about the candidate volunteer and asks if they agree with receiving the selected volunteer(s). If so, The Protestant Church proposes the project to the volunteer(s). If possible, the volunteer can visit the project before making a decision (for Roma volunteers as separate preparation visit is organised). When the volunteer agrees with the match, the placement is confirmed in a letter or e-mail to the volunteer. If the project is refused, the matching process will be repeated with a different suitable project.

The Protestant Church strives to carry out the recruitment process for the voluntary year in a spirit of transparancy, honesty and trust. In all stages of the process, the volunteer, contact person at the host organisation and mentor are closely involved.

Tarefas: The volunteer will be a full member of the community, with his/her own tasks and responsibilities. These tasks and responsibilities will be adjusted to match the volunteer’s experience & skills, age and language skills. The community expects the volunteer to take his/her service seriously. The volunteer will be part of a larger group of other volunteers who work at the organization . The volunteer is guided in his/her work by a professional member of staff or a more experienced volunteer and has regular supervision meetings with the community coordinator.
To give an idea of the work here a short description of an average working week of a volunteer:
- Working in the day nursery of the community; playing and doing activities with the children (1-5 years)
- Working at the reception to get in contact with people in crisis situations, to inform people about the community and give them advice; pick up the phone and tell people about the work of the centre
- Household chores (cooking, cleaning etc.)
- Taking part in group activities of the community (sharing meals, morning & evening prayer, community retreats, free time activities etc.)
- Giving personal attention to the people whom the organization provides shelter to: listening and talking to them, doing activities, go out etc.

Other activities will be planned according to the wishes, experiences and the skills of the volunteers. Previous volunteers, for example, gave individual la nguage lessons to prostitutes or became a ‘buddy’ for a new guest in the community.
Usually the volunteer works from Monday till Friday, approx. 36 hours per week. On Saturdays and Sundays the volunteer is off. Sometimes the volunteer might work at the reception till 22.30h, but then he/she will have the morning off. During the year, the working days and hours can be adapted where necessary.
