Resumo: The organization is located in the city, which is the second largest city of the country (population in 2009 - ~ 350 000, in all of the country ~ 3,3 million). Volunteers will have all the possibilities to daily enjoy a full scale city life (cafes, pubs, cinemas, night clubs, shopping centers, parks and so on) and also volunteers' community.
The city is one of the most significant cities of the country. It is not only a city of old traditions, but also a large centre of business and industry. It can also lay claim to be a city of young people with over 35,000 students studying at one of the seven universities here.
Hundreds of years of cultural heritage are preserved in the historical and architectural monuments, museums, theatres, art galleries and churches of the city. In the city we are proud of the importance that our people have played in contributing towards making the rich cultural, historical, and academic tapestry.
On the downside city is subject to common social problems of the country (or East Europe in general): relatively high unemployment rate, lower living standards (as compared to western Europe, for example), post-communist influences, neglected industrial infrastructure, high youth emigration rates. This, on the other hand, can be viewed as a valuable cultural and socio-economic experience for foreigners.
Kids in the kindergarten are split in groups by age. Or rare exceptions brother and sisters of different age are placed in one group. Extracurricular activates are carried out in groups by age or mixed. The organization has 20 different extracurricular clubs. Volunteers will work in children groups, computer classes, the hall, the gym, the lab and other areas. Volunteers will be able to use all the available equipment necessary to carry out their activities.
Although the organization is Christian, it is by no means a monastery. Every Thursday the children attend the common prayer which lasts 10-15 minutes. During this time church affairs of the week as discussed too. Prayer before the meals is not regular; it is something we only seek for. September 1st is celebrated in the church, as well as some more important festivals. Volunteers do not have to be Catholics or believers, but should be open-minded and should be afraid of going into church. We understand this as a good example for kids. Overall, prospective candidates should take into consideration the Christian profile of our organization.
EVS volunteers are always accommodated in the vicinity of the working place (transport covered), they are provided with private rooms, they are always placed within a local community, have local mentors assigned for extra support etc.
The organization is a comprehensive school providing a formal pre-school and primary education programs, as well as other formal and informal education programs (non-formal education department) for more than 200 children of primary school age.
Special attention and priority is given to orphans, children from disadvantaged families, families with many children.
The mission of the organization is to help children learn to develop in a Christian world, help families to foster investment in basic life-independent, honest and creative personalities.
The vision of the school is Christian value-based community, a cultural center performing, progressing, integrating and combining together families, teachers, a range of cultural, civic and religious organizations that cherish social and religious way of life.
The organization provides pre-school and pre-primary education, initial training education; additional education (establishment and continuity of national culture, health education, artistic, linguistic, sports skills' development and empowerment); opportunity for children to participate in city events, competitions, Olympiads and institutions organized by the state.
The organization is active both internally (9 children clubs are open) and externally (international and national partner organizations providing extra support). A staff of 40 people (teachers, administrative personnel, housekeeping) keep the organization running.
Perfil: The general expected qualities of volunteers are: motivation to work and learn in a different socio-cultural environment, sociable character, flexibility in different situations, responsibility and the spirit of volunteering.
Due to the nature of work, volunteers should like children and enjoy communicating with them. Moreover, volunteers should be patient, kind, emotionally stable. Knowledge of English or Russian is an advantage. Volunteers should also provide a valid health certificate on arrival.
Being Christian naturally we expect that the values we believe in are respected and not despised. This, however, does not exempt volunteers of other faith (or no religious faith at all) from participation.
The recruitment process usually takes place as follows: project description with dates and free places are announced online (website, email) among our sending partners and young people who have contacted us before; the coordinating organization pre-selects candidate applications and forwards them to the host organizations. The final selection is done there. All of the selection participants are informed about the selection results. In case sending organizations are identified prior to specific volunteers the pre-selection takes place in the sending country, and afterwards candidate applications are forwarded to the host organizations.
The organization is open to work with any organization accredited to send EVS volunteers and other organizations from other regions which have experience and are able to follow EU Youth in Action philosophy in practice.
