Resumo: The office is situated in western part of Latvia, in the town which is the third largest town in Latvia. Historically our town had a very mixed population-latvians, russians, lithuanians and some other minority groups. There are a lot of people who belongs to so called "risk group"-disatvantaged children from Orphanage, poor families, children with disabilities. The city also has one of the largest blind people communities in Latvia. People are very friendly and welcoming against other cultures. City itself consist of some regions. As example-former Soviet army secret base-Naval Port. During the first years of independence all the poorest people were send to live here. But in the same time, this is one of the most active region. Youth and childrens from mixed nationalities live here together and very eager to take part in any activities organized by locals or foreigners.

We have 2 main activities centres.
Our office is situated in one of the bigest and most inhabitated areas. There are block houses around and very good public transport connection with the central part of town. The sea is a 3 min walk from our office and the surroundings is very green. So this is a perfect place for outdoor activities. A 5 min walk from the office is an old fortification system, with small knolls, forest etc.
Our second activity centre is located in rural part of the city. There is a wonderful nature and big park in the front of the centre. We plan to renovate this place for every person can find something for himself. There will be another brunch of our office, space for activities, even a small gym for physical activities. We have space for 2 small rooms where volunteers can live in comfort. Also we will have kitchen, where we plan to provide local poor children with some food. Karosta itself is very wonderful and green place. Seaside is 10 min walk, surrounded by forests-ideal place for grow-up.

The city is non-official free-minded people capital of Latvia. From here come varoius musicians, artists, painters, sportists. The town offers a wide range of cultural and social activities. Films are shown in many languages in the cinema, many diverse events take place and many opportunities for doing different sports are given. Various styles of pubs, clubs and restaurants are open to a wide spectrum of people. This gives any young person the possibility to choose between the activities he/she likes and to meet nice people.

The volunteers will share their time with the group of children and youth in the organization and children and youth from different part.

Perfil: The volunteer candidates should be aged between 18 and 30 with some computer skills, basic English and ideally an elementary knowledge of non-formal education. Enthusiasm and interest in inclusion, education and the European project are more important than qualifications. The volunteer should be open-minded, interested and ready to work in an international environment. We will always discuss the project at length with the volunteer to ensure that if the funding is granted the project will be a positive experience for all parties, clarifying details about the role and the aims of the project through writing the application together. We will also leave space for the volunteer to input into the project and shape it more to their interests during the volunteer period.

Tarefas: We can offer volunteers a positive, flexible and supportive environment in which to carry out their voluntary service. We aim to tailor the individual EVS activities to best meet the needs of the individual volunteers.
Learning opportunities
Volunteers will have a number of learning opportunities while volunteering for the organization. These will include, amongst others:
-Experiencing the functioning of an international youth organisation first-hand
-Learning Latvian and feeling confident to live in a foreign country
-Developing a wide range of skills linked to the preparation and implementation of educational activities (basic project management skills, facilitation skills, organisation skills, confidence etc)
-Developing basic communication skills including uploading content onto websites, producing information materials, communicating in an international environment

They will have trainings together and will develop project management skills through their involvement in this project and will acquire intercultural competencies through their constant contact with a truly global group of volunteers.
Volunteer support
Volunteers will be offered comprehensive support from a number of groups:
1.The office staff. The office staff will have day-to-day contact with volunteers and will ensure they have space to put forward their ideas and proposals for the development of projects. The volunteers will be encouraged to evaluate the EVS regularly and suggest improvements.
2.The EVS mentor. Previous volunteer has offered to act as mentor for future volunteers. The volunteers will meet with her each month to discuss the project and possible improvements. Should there be any conflicts, the mentor will assist in mediation. And people with experience in NGO and nonformal education will work like menthors.
3.The organization and other volunteers. Volunteers will not be working with the office staff alone, as a voluntary organisation, the organization relies on local and national volunteers to carry out much of the work we aim to achieve. The EVS volunteer will communicate with a diverse range of young people from all over the world when contributing to different projects and areas of work.
4.The volunteers will be supported through the group of volunteers taking part in the large-scale project organised by IFM-SEI. They will be in constant contact, cooperating on a common project and being supported by a group of local volunteers-they will have a big network they can rely on. They will of course also be supported by their sending and hosting organisations.
The role of the EVS volunteers and examples of possible activities
Volunteers time will be divided between contributing to the work of the international organisation and specific projects and working with a local group of children in te city. The volunteers will be involved in one main project at the international level. Possible projects could be:
-In addition to the main focus, the volunteers will contribute with their ideas and experience to the preparation and implementation of the educational activities and statutory meetings as well as assisting with the maintenance of the organization website and blog. They will participate in the organization meetings and activities to better understand the movement.
-One possible activity is the common project on child poverty and child labour organised by the group of EVS volunteers.
Local Activities
The local activities of the volunteers will complement those done at international level. We aim to provide a better link between the European level and the local organisation by transfering European projects directly to the local level. This will be done through the energy and enthusiasm of the volunteers. Having built up a strong relationship with a local group, the volunteers will work with other local volunteers to initiate and carry out projects at local level. This could be:
-Developing a local inclusion project. Working with local volunteers to identify barriers to inclusion and working with them to develop approaches for better inclusion in their local environment.
