Resumo: The city have different nationalities, the most part of them are Latvians and Russians. The city is rich of nature gifts. The area of the region is famous of its lakes and hills, forests and parks. Our region are an Educational Institute, Music College, Art College, some technical and professional schools, nine secondary schools, a professional theatre, museums. In 2013 the new concert hall called will be opened.

Our town is famous with unique ceramics and handicrafts and traditions. The city is an important geographical, cultural and educational centre of the region which has some serious economic and social problems nowadays. But in spite of that more and more attention is being paid to the development of the town every year.
In the town there are a lot of national minorities. So the people live very friendly in multinational and multicultural society respecting each other with mutual understanding. For the volunteers who come to our town there will be opportunity to live in the multinational society and get some experience and knowledge about new European country, Latvian culture and traditions.

Volunteer will live in the hostel or in the appartment together with another European volunteers. The volunters will share the room with other volunteers of the same gender and they must be open to live in community. If the volunteer wishes, there is a possibility to live in a host family. There are rules in the apartment, where volunteers will live, that can be supervised in case of problems.

Perfil: We are looking for volunteers who are interested in the target group (children/ youth), in the development of activities in animation (culture, art, expression, sport activities, leisure time activities, etc.) and youth projects. As we work with children from poor/disadvantaged families and anti-social families too, volunteers should be open minded and able to face dificulties in the work. Volunteers should be at least 18 years old, given the fact that they will take part in working with children under-18years.
The volunteers are chosen by the CV and the motivation letter. Project coordiantor will contact each volunteer personaly to be sure that volunteer are really interested in this project and work with children/youngsters. The experience of work with children and young people is always a good point for us, but it is not obligatory. There are not any discrimination in sex, religion or race.

What concerns to the sending organization we are open to colaborate with any organization that is interested and motivated to work with this project. The contact with the sending organization is important to us, because we can become partners in different projects and exchange new ideas.
Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The volunteer will have the opportunity to get to know our culture and to learn the Latvian language. The frequency and duration of the lessons will depend on the needs of the volunteer. Classes will take place in the Center.
The volunteer will always be supported by the mentor and all the staff of the Center. If, for some reason, a problem appears to the volunteer it should be, in first order, discussed with the person that is working directly with the volunteer and then, if the problem persist, a meeting with the mentor will bemade.
The role of the volunteer, with the support of the Center, will be the integration in the project and in the community bringing new ideas and giving us a view about his own culture. The volunteer will be a part of the team.
The volunteer will prepare and help the staff of the Center doing educational, procreative, sportive and leisure time activities to the children/youngsters. Volunteer will have a possibility to adapt himself in rural area, to learn new social competences and how to work in the team.
Volunteer will have an opportunity to choose in which direction to work. There are 2 directions:
1. Work in hobby (out of school) education workshops- at the moment 60 different workshops (to help teachers to plan activities for children according to workshop topic, to realize his/her own ideas and projects);
2. Work in youth non-formal education field (together with youth worker of Youth information and NGO support point, search for information about youth activities, projects and put it in Center web site. Together with Youth council and youngsters from free time room, realize new activities, projects in non-formal education-youth initiatives, youth participation and leadership projects-local and international).
As volunteers will have the opportunity to develop his/her own activities, the stuff of the Center will provide all necessary help (contacts, methods, advices), but the volunteer must be autonomous to think and to prepare activities. There is the possibility to cooperate with other organization in the city-NGO, municipality organizations, schools, theater etc.
