Resumo: The host organization is situated within a house where The organization provides accomodation for asylum seekers during their legal decision proceedure. It is a group home for 16 boys and girls within the age range of 14-17.

The working environment of the volunteer is the living environment of our teenagers. General guidelines concerning issues of privacy, confidentiality and code of conduct are explained in detail on arrival.

The group home is located in a larger compound which is owned by the host organization and where 200 asylum seekers are accomodated.
The house is situated in the district, which ist easily reachable by public transport (1/2h from the city centre). The district is traditionally known as a working class distict and is nowadays characterized by a great cultural pluralism due to immigration during the last decades. At the outskirts of the district recreational areas provide outdoor opportunities and a change of scenery. One of these parks is within a walking distance from the group home.

The project is coordinated by other organization which means that the volunteer will be integrated in the programm. That means, that he/she will have the opportunity to meet 25 other foreign EVS volunteers as well as Austrian returnees. All volunteers will be offered a leisure time program, in order to get to know specifics about the Austrian culture. There are monthly meetings in order to offer continuous follow-ups for the volunteers as well as social events where current, future and former volunteers can meet. The coordinating organization also organizes housing, helps with finding language courses for the volunteers and offers a mentoring program and help with all administrative matters.

Perfil: The volunteer should have an interest in social work and in working with young people. Basic knowledge of english and/or german would be an adventage to enable basic communication wth the staff and the teenagers.

Even though it is not a prerequisite, it would be ideal if the volunteer is over 20 until 30 years of age in order to have a small age differance to the oldest inhabitants of the project. This helps to prevent role conflicts and makes the role identification easier for both the volunteer and the teenagers.

Tarefas: A major part of the volunteers' involvement is to assist the staff and the teenagers with everyday activities (for example: cooking meals, shopping for the daily necessities,…always in cooperation with the teenagers or other staff members) and being part of the community, taking care of the individual needs of the teenagers (eg.: chatting about daily thoughts and worries, helping them to get around,…)

In addition we would like to encourage the volunteer in taking an active role in organizing leisure time activities with the teenagers: this could be finding out about different cultural celebrations (including those of the volunteers country of origin and Austria) and planning celebrations and activities for the whole community together with the teenagers and staff. Other possible activities could be renovation or interior design projects, art projects and exploring the outdoors (swimming, walking, etc.)
If the language of the volunteer allows it he/she could also offer help with the home work.
After a while, when the volunteer is used to the working environment, has built up contact with the teenagers and has acqired language skills, it is also possible that the he/she will help the inhabitants with necessary medical, legal, educational etc,... appointments always under supervision of the professional staff.

The volunteers main focus time in work will be the afternoons when the teenagers have finished school for the day. The volunteer will work for 30h/week in the group home, occasionally also on weekends, but will always have 2 days/week off. He/she is entitled to two days of holidays for every month of voluntary service, which needs to be scheduled in advance with approval of the team. Every day there is a short planning as well as evaluation of the day. Tuesdays there are team meetings where the volunteer is invited to take part in, in order to give and take feedback but also for coordination and planning. The mentor in the facility is responsible to look after the individual needs of the volunteer.
