Resumo: This project is coordinated by Grenzenlos, which means that the volunteer will be integrated in the Grenzenlos programm. This means that he/she will have the opportunity to meet many other foreign EVS volunteers as well as Austrian returnees. All volunteers will be offered a leisure time programm, in order to get to know specifics about the Austrian and Viennese culture. There are monthly meetings in order to offer continuous follow-up of the volunteers and to offer a social event where current, future and former volunteers can meet. Grenzenlos also organizes housing, helps with finding language courses for the volunteers and offers a mentoring programm as well as help with all administrative matters.
Since 1996, Grenzenlos participates in the EVS. 1998 it became the implementor of the EVS MELANGE special event project, which resulted in a partnership between EVS organisations and municipal departments. In 1999 the focus was set on the increase of mobility for handicapped, the opening of volunteer actions in Eastern Europe, and maximizing inclusion of disadvantaged youth; e.g. youngsters from migrant background or long term unemployed.
The host organization is like a youth-centre. The only difference is the target group. In our centre we welcome all pupils from 14 to 20 years. The centre is situated in the centre that has about 50.000 inhabitants and every day 12.000 pupils from all around the city come to our town to attend different schools.
To these pupils we offer the possibility to pass their time after school in our centre, sometimes we propose different activities like music courses, sports, games, learning help, etc.
We offer consultation for problems in school, with family or with friends.
We have several special events with a thematic focus (Creative days, Job-Orientation, Love and Sexuality, etc.) during the year.
Our opening times are Tuesday to Friday from 11.30 to 17.00. Sometimes we have activities on weekends.
The fixed working hours for the volunteer are:
Tuesday to Friday 10 to 12 /13 to 17 o´clock (Tuesday morning we have special breakfast event)
On Monday evening there is the possibility to play football
Special events and project on weekends take place 2 or 3 times a year.
Holidays are usually when schools are closed: christmas-holidays(2 weeks), half-term-holidays (1 week), easter-holidays (1 ½ week). (But there is the possibility that we could have some events in these times too.)
Our team consists of experienced social workers, educational advisors and pupils/students. Every week the “main”-team will meet for reflection and evaluation. In these meetings we also discuss special problems with youngsters or plan new activities. The volunteer will have the possibility to take part in team reflecion or individual supervision.
The city it is one of the oldest cities in Austria. It hosts many education institutions, so there is a big student scene. It is also not far from Vienna (about 60 km, 45 minutes by train), which makes it possible to enjoy the benefits of both cities for entertainement.
