Resumo: Located in the centre of the new Europe and heavily influenced by it's history as the capital of the Austrian Hungarian Empire, it builds a bridge between east and west. Many historical buildings offer loads of sight seeing opportunities, but fortunately th city is also influenced by modern times: it has a lively night life, many opportunities to practice sport and a large cultural programme.

This project is coordinated by the coordinating organization, which means that the volunteer will be integrated in the programm, the EVS in cooperation with the city This means that she will have the opportunity to meet 25 other foreign EVS volunteers as well as Austrian returnees. All volunteers will be offered a leisure time programm, in order to get to know specifics about the Austrian culture.

There are monthly meetings in order to offer continuous follow-up of the volunteers and to offer a social event where current, future and former volunteers can meet. The coordinating organization also organizes housing, helps with finding language courses for the volunteers and offers a mentoring programm as well as help with all administrative matters.

Perfil: Ideally, the volunteers are interested in working with children or youth groups. The most important thing is, that they should have an open approach to children and young people and the interest in interacting with them. If the volunteers have special interests (creativity, social skills, interest in music, dancing, sports etc) this is mostly welcomed and will be integrated into the programm.

Within the networks of the ccordinating organization the project placement is promoinvite and all young people interested in the hosting placements are invited to apply. An application consist of a CV, a Motivation letter and the full details of the responsible sending organisation which the ccordinating organization forwards to the schools where the selection will be made within the team

All vacant placements of the ccordinating organization EVS projects will be sent to all partner organisations of the ccordinating organization and will be published on the evs works-site as well. In this way the placement is open for all applications.

However in the selection procedure a preference is shown for candidates with fewer opportunities. The applicants are informed about specific preferences (gender, background etc) including the justification for these preferences. The applicants are welcome to inform about the current procedures an ask questions at any time. Upon request, the hosting placement can be asked to give reasons for their selection.
Age:18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The main task of the volunteers will be to make the programm in the schools of the WDV more international. Preferably, this will happen project based, via imputs on games, sports, songs, creative activities from their country, cooking etc. In any case, this can also happen by the presence of the volunteer, participating in the daily activities and one-to-one contact with individual pupils. The volunteer will be integrated in the daily programme of the initiative and will have the chance to create individual projects during this programme. The main aim is to present different cultures to the children in the schools and in this way, make them familiar with different cultures and make them appreciate them, which in the end should create more open world citizens.

After hosting long term EVS volunteers for several years now, the WDV knows the positive impact an international volunteer can have in the schools: each volunteer gave unique inputs, according to talents, interests and character: teaching Salsa, learning Russian, making Tiramisu, are only a few of the activities volunteers have organised in the past years. The volunteer makes our schools more international and with his/her culture makes a different culture part of the daily life of the school. This input we would like to continue.

The project will take place in two schools. These schools would like to integrate a volunteer in their free learning programm, but letting the volunteer develop intercultural projects and offer these to the children. Even though the schools have a common approach to the philosopy of learning they do differ from each other in the focus and methods. Most of the schools have a mixture of all of it.Upon the arrival of the volunteer, the schools will be presented to him/her and together with the WDV, a schedule will be made for and with the volunteeer, according to the interest of the volunteer and the characteristics of the schools, as well as the capacity of the school to host a volunteer in that period of time.

As described above, the main task of the volunteers will be to make the programm in the different schools more international and to integrate different cultural elements in the daily life of the children. By doing this, the volunteers will have the chance to get in touch with the children, to get to know them and to learn how to deal and interact with them. After an introduction period, when the volunteer gets used to all of this they also have the possibility to create own projects or lessons, according interests and talents. The volunter therefore will learn how to define a project/activitiy and how to put it into action. About 40 % of the tasks is participating in the daily activities, joining project defined by the teachers and parents, 20% is helping out with daily activities like: cleaning, setting the tables, helping the children dress etc. 40 % is own intercultural project work defined by the volunteer (preparing and implementing).

As the schools orientate themselves to the needs of the pupils, the schedule is flexible to plan activities and projects of the volunteer. At all times, the volunteer is supported by the staff in the schools. Additional mentoring is provided by the Dachverband: this enables the volunteer to speak about specific problems they encounter in the schools, as for most of them this is the first time that they are working with children. Also, own individual projects can be defined with the mentor at the Dachverband. At no time, the volunteer will have the whole responsibility of the group: always a parent or a teacher will be present.

The opening times and the age of the pupils can vary from school to school. The average age of the children is from 5 -maximum 12 years old. Every school has as a big part of the programm free learning which consists of letting the pupils choose their own learning process. During this time, the volunteer can offer own project activities to the pupils, who will choose to join this project or not. The volunteers will participate in the meetings of the staff, in order to be plan the activities in the school (including his/her own activities and projects). The volunteer will make a schedule of the working time together with the Dachverband. In total the volunteer will work 5 days per week (Monday to Friday) but not work more than 30 hours. He/she will work in two schools at the same time: two days in each school.

The fifth day will be the excursion day: the volunteer will alternate the two schools on this day. When the volunteer is working in one school, he/she will participate in the whole programm of that day. During designated times he/she will have the possibility to create activities of his/her own. The holidays in all schools are defined by the austrian legal school holidays. The volunteer will have to take his/her holidays during these holidays (one week during autumn, 2 weeks during christmas, one week during Easter).

Method: the kids learn during the whole day, they can decide what they want to do, but the kids also have sometimes kind of lessons for instance Italian language.

Horário: A typical day at school can look like the described schedule:
9:00-9:30 welcoming the children, setteling down in the school.
09:30- 10:00 Pau-Wau: plenary meeting of children and teachers, where they speak about the programm of the day
10:00- 12:00 learning: the group is split in two (both groups are mixed in age and gender). Reading, writing and calculating is taught according to Montessori methods. Several times per year a special theme (for exapmle Stone Age) is dealt with.
12:00-14:00 lunch and break: parents cook for the whole group. Sometimes, cooking can be part of the school day as well:

the children learn how to cook and how to work together in a team. After that, the children are free for one hour, and can find their own room in one of the special corners, they can play inside or outside, prepare theatre plays etc.
14:00-16:30 courses are offered by teachers and parents. This can be singing, plying gitarre, Kong Fu, cooking, creative works, computer etc. This is also the time that the volunteer can offer a course, project or activitiy.
16:30-17:00 cleaning, dressing, leaving for home.
Once per week, an outdoor activity is organised: iceskating, swimming, cinema, theatre, excrsions to special events etc… At least two times per year we have a one week excursion: in winter we go skiing, in sommer we spend one week on the country side: hinking, swimming, playing….

Holidays:
The schools are closed during the public Austrian holidays. These are also the holidays for volunteers:
General holidays: 26. October, 1. November, 8. December
Whit Monday, 1. May, Ascension Day, Feast of Corpus Christi
Christmas: 24. December bis 6. January
Semesterholidays: first Februarweek
Easterholidays: Palm Sunday- Easter monday

During the summer holidays the schools are closed as and we do not host EVS volunteers.
