Volunteers atthe organization work in a dynamic and flexible organisation. Despite a fixed project description, there are many opportunities for personal growth when volunteering at the organization. During the EVS year it is possible to rotate between the four animal care departments, i.e. quarantaine and the three rehabilitation departments for resp. small mammals, primates and chimpanzees. In all departments they will actively take part in the caretaking process of different kinds of exotic animal species.
The volunteers also can learn from working in a flat and adaptable organisation. If they think of possible changes in the work they are doing that will benefit the organisation, they are more than welcome to share their ideas with their supervisors and teamleaders.
In addition to their work in the animal care departments (32 hrs/week), at the organization an EVS project also offers the possibility for the volunteers to acquire some experience at other departments of this large NGO as they have in total 36 working hours per week.
The organization has two guest houses, one on its own premises and one in the residential areas of the city. Here the EVS volunteers will live together not only with other EVS volunteers, but also with other volunteers who work at the organization but who are not associated with EVS. Tasks to be performed with regard to the volunteer house are also part of the EVS experience. They will act as a contact between the inhabitants and the organization, which will give them the opportunity to improve their managerial and social skills. In general, staying in the organization-volunteer house gives them an opportunity to participate in social activities and learn more about the Dutch culture.
