Resumo: The host organization is situated in one of the largest cities of the Republic of Croatia. It is in the northwest of the country, along the river, at the southern slopes of the mountain.The city lies at an elevation of approximately 122 m above sea level. In the last official census of 2011, the population of the settlement of the city was 686,568, while the total population of its administrative area was 792,875. The wider the metropolitan area includes the City and the separate the County with a population of 317,642, bringing the total metropolitan area population up to 1,110,517. It is the only metropolitan area in Croatia with a population of over one million. The transport connections, concentration of industry, scientific and research institutions and industrial tradition underlie its leading economic position in Croatia. The city is the seat of the central government, administrative bodies and almost all government ministries. Many museums, cinemas, clubs and cultural centres can be found in the city and all year round the city hosts many festivals and cultural events. It is also the biggest university city in Croatia with some 50 000 students.

Volunteers will have plenty of opportunities to get in touch with other parts of Croatia through our projects and activities. Namely, most of our summer activities (international voluntary workcamps) take place in different urban and rural areas in Croatia.

Perfil: Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: Volunteers will have a full support by our office staff and our volunteer members who are active in the organization. Volunteers will be supported by trainings about Croatian culture and history and trainings related to their work tasks (volunteer management, presentation of international exchange programmes, workcamp leader seminar, presentation skills). In agreement with volunteers and according to the job description, additional trainings and support that can be helpful in their working tasks and in the process of intercultural learning which will be organized. Constant efforts will be made to help the volunteer to integrate into the local community. Daily workshop will be organized for volunteers to let them get in touch with the VCZ activities and to define the activities they would run on.
Volunteers will have lots of learning opportunities. Working constantly and deeply in an international environment (VCZ’s staff and other EVS volunteers), they will have the chance to improve their level and knowledge about English language, and experience concretely how this language can function as a tool and bridge between different backgrounds, and how it's actually effective and has concrete results for working. As the project is set expressly in an international context, the volunteer will have plenty of opportunities for learning and develop topics concerning intercultural learning. Also, they will have the possibility of becoming more and more independent, and learn how to build their work routine, pointing attention on their organizational skills. Moreover, volunteers will get in touch with the reality and functioning of NGO in Croatia, directly working inside one of these structures, and having the possibility of meeting other NGOs in VCZ orbit.
University students of Croatian language who are members of VCZ will provide language training 2 times a week for 2 hours. During the first few months of placement, language course will be more intensive. International volunteers in the organisation will be part of the project team of VCZ and will equally contribute to our activities as the other local and national volunteers in the organization.
