Only 18.7% of the Saxons are younger than 21 years. Approx.. 30% are older than 60 years. Since the political turn in 1989 the economical structure changed deeply. New companies and industries settled, especially in the centers of development. The middle class with crafts enterprises became an important component of the Saxonian economy. Microelectronics, manufacturing -, energy and environmental technology are the most important industrial goods, which are exported by Saxony into the whole world. Despite strong growth the unemployment ratio of 13,1% in rural regions remains high.

The town is one of the economically strongest regions. International companies, universities and centres of research are attractive to professionals from all over the world. They shape the cultural variety and openness of the city.

Tarefas: International youth work and co-operation are one of the most important supporting pillars in the work of the association. The Host organization has maintained various contacts with international partners, especially on European level since 1996. For strengthening this co-operation. The work of coordianting organization is supported by our office. Due to the membership and co-operation with these organisations, the organization is sending groups of young people each year. In 2004, the organization was organising an ESE in town. Its preparation and accomplishement was supported by a European Volunteer.

The employees of our member organisations are actively connected with each another. At professionals' meetings they discuss methods and experiences of the scientific youth formation. The international work can be enriched and deepened by the EVS. The volunteers should contribute to maintain and deepen existing contacts and develop new co-operation. As an impact of the direct work with children and young people, their interest in other cultures is to be aroused and encouraged. The volunteers should serve the young people as models and motivate them to become a volunteer themselves.

In the office, the volunteers' tasks are organising events of youth education, further education and international exchange with children, young people and professionals.
An afternoon per week, the volunteers get the opportunity to realise their own project in our centre for children and youth. So they can apply their own interests and abilities in natural science and technology and promote the intercultural aspect at the local youth work.
