Resumo: Volunteers will live in one small town in Lithuania. Each volunteer will have a separate room and will live in the apartment together with other volunteers or in Lithuanian family. Local transport, food, Lithuanian language courses and training will be provided according to the EU "Youth in Action”. A volunteer will also be able to visit the centre of the county and meet other international volunteers and local youth. A volunteer will be able to see and evaluate the lifestyle of the small town in Lithuania as the pace of life in small towns is rather slow and people are more affected by social problems such as unemployment. Many young people from small towns study at universities of the largest cities and tend to stay there. The town has a cultural centre, museum, library, several sports clubs, restaurants and a swimming-pool.
Perfil: would like person to be a female, would know at least basics of russian language
Age: 18 until 30 years old
Tarefas: Volunteers will work five days per week (from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), with the elderly people. In case of uncertainties their work schedule will be revised taking into account their needs and circumstances. Tasks will include social-cultural activities and other occupational activities that are performed in the institution. Volunteers will be encouraged to devote their time to clients because the most important thing for work with elderly people is communication during different activities as well as informal communication. We believe that communication with people of different age, education and experience will give mutual benefit and hope that EU volunteers will perfectly deal with all problems. A volunteer's language, professional and communication skills, personal and social competences will be considered when assigning tasks. We will try to organize all the training process on the basis of learning from experience and other principles of informal education of the youth.
Activities of volunteers in the institution could be as follows:
They should devote approximately 50% of their time for active direct activities with target group, i.e. with elderly and disabled people. It could be social-cultural activities (festivals, trips, afternoons, sports hours) and other occupational activities (handicraft, art therapy, knitting, game afternoons and music therapy).
They should devote approximately 30% of their time for individual informal communication and assistance (when handling, shopping, visiting doctors and relatives, visiting and caring for graves of relatives and other diseased people), i.e. to perform different routine everyday tasks. At the beginning of volunteering routine tasks could cover approximately 50% of work time of a volunteer.
They should devote approximately 20% of their work time for activities initiated by them, i.e. for work with children (to assist in organizing different entertainments and other activities).
Volunteers will be able to participate in other activities and will be included in social rehabilitation. They will assist in everyday household activities, landscaping and planting. For instance, one of volunteers will be able to assist independent people by applying a simple therapy of activity and helping them in everyday jobs and activities (sports activities, outdoor activities, landscaping and home tidying, handicraft, music therapy, computer and language lessons, yoga classes, shopping, excursions, etc.). The other volunteer will be able to assist people who need nursing and care (simple exercises, drawing, communication, helping to eat, etc.). At the request of volunteers we will be able to change their places every month because when working with different groups they will be encouraged to exchange their ideas and experience. When scheduling time tables we will try to discover and use as flexibly as possible their interests, experience, skills and cultural backgrounds. While working in our institution volunteers will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about social care, develop communication and teamwork skills. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn from their experience and will receive valuable advices from older people who learned to adapt to the changed circumstances of life.
While working in our institution EU volunteers will be considered as full members of the team having the same rights and responsibilities as other employees. They will be able to make their contribution to development of activity projects. Their activities will be coordinated and planned.
