Resumo: The city is a city of about 40,000 inhabitants, located in a rural department. This is a beautiful city rich in historical heritage, which welcomes many visitors. The river - a still wild one - crosses through the city.
The city, human-sized city, offers many opportunities for cultural outings, sports, volunteer engagement and nature walks. It is located two hours by train from Paris.
The town council of the city is a territorial unit of the French administration in charge of managing municipal affairs. Its mission is to ensure the proper functioning of public services delivered to citizens. For this, the town council of Nevers has the human and financial resources: € 80 million annual budget, about 800 employees, twenty sites (offices and shops) across its territory.
The volunteer will be welcomed by the project manager who manages the relations to the twin cities and European and international issues with particular attention to youth. The missions are managed in conjunction with many partners (other City departments, twinning committees, educational institutions, youth work structures,...).
Currently the office is located in the prestigious town, in the city center.
The volunteer will participate in the implementation of the "international youth mobility" that seeks to develop mobility and citizenship of young people of Nevers. The overall project aims are:
- Develop youth mobility projects of young people;
- Disseminate information on European citizenship and action of UE for youth;
- Fight against discrimination through the promotion of cultural diversity;
- Train local youthworkers in setting up European projects;
- Pooling and organizing skills and knowledge on European issues.
The volunteer will often be with other young people (schools, colleges, youth groups).
It will be housed in a furnished studio belonging to the Touwn Council to 20 minutes walk from downtown. The studio is part of a building housing associations and leisure activities for children from 3 to 6 years. A bicycle is made available to the volunteer. Upon arrival, the volunteer will find all relevant documents concerning the discovery of the city and its region and more particularly a guide for volunteers written by the first who made a voluntary EVS in the town council.
The effective working time is 35 hours weekly, usually distributed Monday through Friday. In case of special event the volunteer will be required to work weekends. In this case, he/she will receive two consecutive days off during the week.
Perfil: Volunteer profile :
- Youth motivated to participate and get involved in the activities for youth (children and students)
- Good interpersonal skills,
- Ability to make themselves understood and to understand French
- Personal sensitivity to the culture of his/her country, and to the cultural diversity of populations,
- Interest in Europe and its history,
- Motivated to work in autonomy but also for teamwork
- Age: 18 until 30 years old
Recruitment process
Transparency and fairness will be ensured by the recruitment procedure established by the Human Resources Department of the town council. No sending organization is chosen in advance. The criteria mentioned above are indicative but all applications will be considered sympathetically.
A CV and motivation letter will have to be sent in which the volunteer demonstrate

There would be a 2 stage application process :
1/ The project manager will study all applications
2/ The town councillor and the project manager would conduct skype interviews (or similar tool) with the shortlisted applicants
Tarefas: the activity starts usually on september each year and the assocation works on the applcation during the first three months of the year.
The volunteer will be greeted upon arrival by the project manager (International relations), which will focus on facilitating its integration within municipal services and in the city. She will provide individual support whatsoever for the tasks or for his/her life everyday.
It is expected that the volunteer receives linguistic support but the form will depend on his/her level of competence in French and his/her native language. For instance, the volunteer could participate in courses in a high school of Nevers. During activities with the project manager, any occasion will also be utilized to improve his/her French.
In addition to seminars for European volunteers programmed by AFPEJA on arrival and mid-term, two courses will be offered to the volunteer:
* A session exploring the community for new municipal officers
* A general education certificate of proficiency as a facilitator (BAFA).
Through the activities, the volunteer will learn about: administrative work, managing a network of partners, knowledge of the organization of European projects, the organization of a local event, to create their own media work, managing a budget, use of new technologies in the work (outlook, intranet, management of international relations blog), work independently.
He/She will improve and develop his/her interpersonal skills, communication and of course his/her language practice.
He/she will discover new cultures through attendance at various youth encountered and language assistants. He /she will discover the educational system and the French way of life. His/her activities, carried out independently, while being accompanied, if necessary, will strengthen his/her confidence in him/her.
Part and proposed activities for EVS volunteers: he/she will participate in various activities outlined below and will also have the opportunity to develop a personal project based on his/her skills and personal interests.
Support young people in their individual projects of international mobility (search for internships or summer jobs abroad, EVS projects, ...)
The volunteer will accompany the project manager in information sessions with youth and adults working with young people. He/she will accompany the students in their search for internships abroad or EVS project (search for postings, help with resume writing in English and cover letter, etc..). He/she will help to maintain international contacts already established by the city of Nevers and to update the database. He/she will help to develop a network of internships in the twin cities.
Promote cultural diversity and European citizenship among young people
The volunteer will help to provide cultural knowledge of Europe. He/she will share his/her experience and his/her personal sensitivity to issues of Europe and international mobility. According to his/her interests and choice the volunteer can work, from time to time, in organizing workshops on different topics in schools or in high schools and youth work structures.
He/she may invest in the school radio based in Nevers by offering one or more issues.
Accompany and support the international mobility projects in group
The volunteer host will eventually make available youth structures language skills to assist them in the implementation of international projects such as youth exchanges (Youth in Action). Activities can be developed in collaboration with youth, with the support of the volunteer.
Participate in the creation of a network of language assistants
Each year, several schools host for a few of young foreign assistants whose mission is to support students in learning foreign languages. The city of Nevers wants to improve the reception and integration of these young people within the town and create a network which could then help the youth of Nevers in their mobility projects. The volunteer could help organize the reception of young assistants upon arrival at Nevers; encourage them into contact with various associations, and work with them to support young candidates (EVS internship or international).
Participate in the organization of European meetings
Nevers, with its "twinning and youth: towards a European network" project, brought together youth workers, volunteers and elected officials of twinning in a network of facilitators from its twin towns. The volunteer could participate in organizing projects or European meetings depending on the circumstances.
