Resumo: The hodt organization is a non-profit making organization which develops environmental and heritage conservation projects, through different actions and publics: inclusion work, training work, voluntary work and other actions of sustainable development in rural areas.
For this voluntary project, a group of 6 European volunteers and 2 French volunteers will be hosted. This team will take part in the conservation of built heritage.

The volunteers will have the chance to work on two counties. The volunteers will travel and spend time outside their lodging location for several week camps. That will be the opportunity to discover local culture and people.

Our organization aims to raise people awareness about our heritage which also vehicles social connections. Built heritage is a great medium to share and federate people on the history of a territory and its people. Heritage also reflects the cultural diversity of our European communities. The main goal of this conservation project is to make the ‘heritage’ topic more accessible to young people in order to develop the participation of everyone to its conservation.

The team of volunteers will take part to several kind of activities :
A/ Technical activities: Conservation work of built heritage on different supports and using different techniques: soil, lime, stone…
The activities will be supervised by the technical leaders of the organization.
B/ Educational activities: Raising awareness on built heritage conservation and local heritage (with schools, local population, visitors …), link with the local actors. Enhancement of European culture and exchanges.

Perfil: Being a volunteer requires the appropriate profile, commitment, sense of responsibility, open minded and availability for the whole duration of the project. Willing to live a collective experience.
The volunteers will have to deal with a mixed group of different nationalities and create relationships with local communities.
A first experience in volunteering would be a plus as well as knowledge in the conservation of heritage.
Interest for French language and culture.
Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The team of volunteers will be supervised by a professional technical leader on all supports which involved specific skills. The volunteers will work from Monday to Friday, 35 hours a week. The volunteers will have days off between the activities.

A. Built heritage conservation works
1. Wash house of the former Presbytery of the village.
Date : July – 3 weeks
Accommodation : In the presbytery – 2/3 persons shared bedroom
Activities :
o The wash house is very damaged. The idea is to rebuild it as it was, using the original materials (stone, soil)
o Preparing the clay and straw mortar
o Building the walls of the wash house with this preparation

2. Former weaver village
Date : August – 3 weeks
Accomodation : Campsite (tents) in the garden of a house. Kitchen and bathroom inside the house.
Activities :
o The former village is located on a walking trail going through the touristic. Volunteers have been working on these houses for 3 summers. The aim is continue to secure the ruins to permit the local population and tourists to discover this common heritage. To do so, the volunteers will remove the dangerous stones and put a layer of lime on the top of the walls.

3. Castle
Date : Septembre – 3 weeks
Accomodation : Municipal campsite
Activities :
o Each year, volunteers restore a part of the moats of this XII century castle. Masonry work using lime.
B. Educational acitvities
o Develop relationship with local population by working on various technical supports.
o Organization of multicultural events
o Enhancement of European voluntary experience with schools, local population, young workers etc…
o As part of the cultural exchange, volunteers will take part to the cultural programs with local community.

Condições: Accomodation of the volunteers when not on worksites : Former presbytery
Food : provided

A car will be provided for work trip and also for leisure activities on weekends and holidays.
