Resumo: It is proposed that the voluntary service takes place within one or a combination of the organization which include the following:
Roma Project, based in South. The project has a few different elements:
- Work with children, both centre based and outreach. This project helps with the development of social skills and the understanding of appropriate behaviour within structured environments such as the classroom.
- Family support which provides support to families with the aim of ensuring the home environment is safe and healthy
- Seasonal activities
- Health education

An another organization which works with Irish Travellers, based in West. Current projects include:
- Youth work, including separate male and female groups for 9-12 year olds
- Women’s group
- Health education, which includes healthy lifestyles, nutrition and healthy cooking, lifestyle choice

The Roma and Traveller communities tend to be marginalised and can face misunderstanding and prejudice from some members of the wider community. These communities can experience marginalisation, poverty and poor health. The project is not based in a live-in community.

Perfil: We would like to receive volunteers who are interested in working with minority ethnic groups and ideally with children and young people. We will not look for any specific academic qualifications – personal qualities and interest will be much more important to us. We are happy to work with any Sending Organisation which supports their volunteers effectively and already have a range of partner organisations we have worked well with before.

Selection of volunteers would be done by a combination of staff, including the EVS Officer and staff from the project.
Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The volunteer will have the opportunity to learn the following:
- skills in working with children, young people and women, on a one-to-one and group basis
- knowledge of developmental play techniques
- knowledge of a range of health education approaches
- an understanding of life for minority ethnic communities and children/yong people in particular, including approaches to inclusion and how minority ethnic communities can face exclusion and predjudice within society
- a deeper understanding of systems and structures within Northern Ireland, especially those relating to education, social and welfare support
- an understanding of Roma and Irish Traveller traditions and attitudes, identifying similarities and differences in cultural, linguistic and lifestyle approaches

In addtion, the following competences will be developed:
- Learning to Learn: Monitoring and evaluation will take place throughout the placement, thus helping the volunteers to identify their own learning.
- Interpersonal and Social Competences/Communication in Foreign Tongue: through working alongside local staff and volunteers and through involvement with the project service users, the volunteers will have the opportunity to further develop interpersonal and social skills. They will have the opportunity to develop their English through everyday communication. These communication, interpersonal and social skills will be essential in their roles.
- Mathematical Competence/Scientific Competence: the volunteers will inevitably face day to day challenges which will require the application of logic to resolve the problems. For example, when planning an activity, they will need to analyse what materials and resources are required to carry out the task and then may use skills learnt during training to finish the task in hand.
- Digital Competence: the volunteers will use IT for communication (e-mail), monitoring/self-evaluation (preparation of monthly, final reports and Youthpass
- Entreupreneurship: it is hoped that the volunteers will consider the development of a personal project or introduce their own ideas to the project.

The volunteer will assist the staff in working with the children, young people, groups or individuals using the organization services. There are currently 2 full time and 2 part-time staff in the Roma Project and 8 full time and 2 part time staff in another organization. The volunteers will work alongside the staff, helping them to deliver the services to the children, young people and women. It is hoped that the volunteers will complement the work of the staff and enhance the quality of the service for those in need of the services of the organization.

The volunteer will be involved in a range of activities – the following are some examples:
- accompany a staff member to the local school to collect the Roma children and walk with them to the project, assist with preparation of rooms and materials, support the staff in developmental play and homework activities.
- Support the staff in the planning, preparation and delivery of creative and seasonal activities for age-specific groups of young Irish Travellers
- Assist the Health Education worker in facilitating group discussion around healthy lifestyles
- It is hoped that the volunteer can help to contribute ideas for new or additional activities. For example, they could present information about their own country and exchange information about culture, food, lifestyle and language, encouraging the children to present aspects of their own lives and also incorporating key elements of traditional Northern Ireland life.
