Resumo: Our work stems from the belief that free time is a privileged space for education, prevention and social intervention, and the realization that society does not care about providing educational contents and activities to encourage the development of youth.

We work with children and youth from 7 to 30 years, putting special emphasis on those who are disadvantaged for economic, cultural or social reasons.
The activities taking place at the youth center are:
• ALTERNATIVA VAIVEN: Educational and entertainment activities for children from 6-14 years. Every Saturday throughout the school year. Includes snow trips, trips to the beach, camping, homecoming celebrations, Christmas, carnivals, magosto, rally for peace, summer camp ...
This program is separated into groups depending on the ages:
Cativos (6 – 10 years), Andaina (10-12 years) and ADS (12-14 years).

We also organize the afterschool activities for the Salesians school who we belong to.
• URBAN CAMP: Organized in collaboration with the Youth Department of the organization. Urban Camp for children from 8 to 14 years old. We organize it the first half of August and we have the participations of around 550 children every year.
• XINXIN PROJECT: intervention with children aged between 6-14 years old in social risk arising from Social Services City of the organization. Includes educational support groups and a study classroom during the week, entertainment and playroom, individual monitoring of individual aid cases and meals and transport to facilitate participation.
• ENGLISH PLAYROOM: activities for children from 3-5 years old to learn English through play.
• SPEAKS: English conversation workshop for children from 12 to 16 years old once a week.
• THE Toupeira ROOM: social integration program that works with young people aged 13 to 25 years old. It is based on offering a lounge / bar that serves as a reference space, from which to promote healthy attitudes and behaviors in leisure time. Highlights: Live concerts, a Cyber Free, sports, Youth Information Point, awareness campaigns, music, theater...
• Solidarity: Solidarity Campaigns aimed related, in one hand to work covering a social need and on the other to sensitize the youth about the importance of getting involved and develop voluntary action and solidarity.
• VOLUNTEERING: Awareness and promotion of voluntary work among youth and volunteers. Includes volunteer mini experiences, campaigns, courses...
• LEISURE CLUB: leisure activities for young people with disabilities, in collaboration with ASPANAEX, Friday or Saturday afternoon or evening.

The host Organization is located in one of the largest cities in the Spanish Northwes coast. It is located in the south part of Galicia, and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, which will influence the development and activities of its population throughout history.

The city is primarily an industrial city, of recent expansion. The Port is one of the main ports in Europe. The Marine sector (Shipyards, fishing,) is one of the sectors that contributed most significantly to the growth of the city, although it is also the sector that economic and social unrest has suffered in recent years resulting from the international crisis and progressive conversions of the 80’s-90’s.
The population is approaching 300,000, although significant is the fact that only 63% of the current inhabitants were born in the city. The big growth was in very short time (only 30 years), which resulted in a disorganized and chaotic urban planning, difficult to categorize.

Today the city is undergoing a process of change, giving a significant increase in other sectors such as cultural (the opening in recent years from the Marine Museum, a Museum of Contemporary Art and a Museum-House of the Word), the Tourism, the implementation of the University, ...

PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENTS:
Food, lodging and local transport
Volunteers will live in a 3 bedroom flat, with full equipped kitchen, bathroom, lounge room, washing machine… shared with another EVS volunteer from the organisation.
She will get an amount per month for food expenses and local transport, and also the pocket money.

Perfil: We do not have a specific profile in the selection of the volunteers, though we have to put some criteria for doing so in the most equitable and transparent manner.
The level of education and language skills are not important.
The profile of the volunteer we need in the youth center is a person who likes working with children in social exclusion, youth and education work in free time.
We would like someone with: communication skills, social skills, enthusiastic, creative, with initiative, values, solidarity and European identity.
We also appreciate experience and background in leisure-time activities with children and youth, but mostly to have had volunteering experience in his / her country of origin.

The selection process consists in:
- A first selection of the CV we received via e-mail and through Youth networks website, by the Coordinating Board of the Youth center.
- Once we select some candidates that best fits in the profile that we are looking for, we will send a form to fill it out telling us a little more about themselves, their motivations and a part to be filled in by he sending organization because we think it is important to do a good preparation job and a proper follow-up of their volunteers.
- Once we received the forms, we will select the most appropriate candidate to the activities and profile and thus establish a day to talk on the phone and exchanging other information, details, and questions that the person wants to know etc.
- Finally, we will communicate the decision to the most suitable candidate and we will be communicate the decision to the rest who have not been selected.
Age:

Tarefas: Since our center is a center by and for youth, where youth are recipients and volunteers at the same time, the presence of young European volunteers will contribute to greater diversity and richness of the activities offered by us.
Specifically, the tasks to be performed by the volunteers are:
 Participate in programming activities, actions, monitoring of activities of the various projects in which they will participate.
 Support the school support activities with children at risk of social exclusion, and playroom.
 Support playroom activities in English and English conversation workshops with children between 3 and 14 years old.
 Collaborate with other volunteers in the activities of the playroom, library, cyber and Toupeira: games, workshops, solidarity campaigns, awareness campaigns, music, theater...
 Collaborate on issues of animation, programming and monitoring of children's center activities (cativos, ADS, Andaina): material preparation, activity preparation...
 Collaborate with other volunteers in the special activities of the youth center: Magosto (feast of chestnuts), Christmas, holidays and special events center, summer camps, excursions, festivals...
 Collaborate with technical staff and other volunteers in the various campaigns related with Youth in Action program: handing out leaflets, roundtables, lectures...
 Develop a personal project related to some of the activities of the entity, in accordance with their preferences, skills and abilities.

The general schedule of the volunteer will be 35 hours per week, including 4.5 h a week for the language training that they will have during the school months of the Official Language School (October – May).
Volunteers will have two days off a week, apart from the national and local holiday days.
They will also have two holiday days per month project of project, which may take together or divided into different periods, in agreement with the staff of the youth center.
During the summer months the volunteers schedule will be accommodate to the activities that the center organizes: summer camps, trips to the beach, camping, Urban Camp .
