Resumo: The voluntary activity proposed here is the same proposed in our previous manifestations of interest and performed by our former volunteers: collaboration with the staff of the nursing homes for elders in the entertainment sector.
The environment in which the volunteers will be integrated is the nursing homes for elders. They will always be in touch with the guests, their families and the staff of the organization. One of the most important characteristics in those houses is the adaptation to the reality and condition of the elders: it's essential to be patient, calm and sensible.

The nursing homes of the host organization are all located in a city with about 105.000 inhabitants. In this reality, our volunteers will experiment that all cultures should be respected in a similar manner and living together is possible.

On the geographical point of view the city benefit of a lucky position. The city historical centre is rich of tradition, history and art, and also the core business of the city.

The volunteers will not face any rules or conditions different from what it’s expected inside of the European Union. The most particular condition of the working environment is the local bilingualism and the inter-generational activity. Inside of the nursing home’s structure, the volunteers will always be supported by their work supervisors, as well as the other staff members, the direction of the house and their mentor. Besides that, the volunteers can also count with the support of the coordinating organization which organizes at least 2 personal meetings with them (in the beginning and end of the service). We believe that meeting with someone outside of the organization could allow the volunteers to speak more openly about eventual problems or difficulties. The straight collaboration with coordinating organization and the closeness of the city and Trento allow us to follow the volunteers in a complementary and complete way, developing project (until the moment) with very positive results.

Perfil: • bigger intercultural sensitiveness and knowledge in intercultural communication
• European awareness
• knowledge about new socio-cultural realities which are different from their own one
• possibility to discover and develop new professional competences
• development of an useful social work
• improvement of competences concerning the assistance and entertainment activities for elderly
• development of their own small project and initiatives
• improvement of the capacity to work in group
• improvement of the language skills (Italian and/or German)
• personal growth: independence, self-confidence etc.
Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The volunteers will get the possibility to acquire these competences through the activities they will carry out at the hosting organization. The service will consist mainly in helping the staff of the nursing homes to develop the everyday life activities and the organization of recreational and cultural activities. Volunteers will constantly have the support of the staff members. The work supervisors should explain and discuss with them the objectives of every single actions, the development and expected result, teaching to the volunteers what is needed to do this kind of social work in the proper way.
By performing the above activities, the volunteers will participate actively in the life of the nursing home in close contact with the elderly so that they can enjoy the presence and support of young volunteers who – on the other hand - will learn to relate with the elders in need of care and support, gaining a valuable experience in the personal and professional point of view and with a growing autonomy and responsibility.

During the service, the volunteers will have the possibility to organize and carry out their own projects which could involve the representation of their own culture, taking into consideration also aspect of intercultural communication, and any other argument they consider appropriated. Once they gain confidence with the working environment, the volunteers could develop their own projects more independently, being in any case under the supervision of the staff of the house. The volunteers will learn to work autonomously and to rely on their capacities and knowledge, developing self-confidence. Besides that, the opportunity of being abroad, without the family and usual friends, using a diverse language and facing a different reality will give them the chance to reflect, to open their mind and to grow up as individuals. During meetings with the other volunteers from the host organization will allow them to change experiences and grow up together.

The volunteer will also have the chance to participate in an Italian language course, which probably lasts 30 hours and takes place two times a week, in the evening. If the funds would allow us to, it could also be possible to organize a German course to those who would like to, seen that the city is a bilingual region. It will be offered to the volunteers to participate also in some specific short-term courses usually designed to the staff.

During the whole period of the service, monthly meetings will be arranged between the volunteers and the person in charge of the in the organization. Those meetings will be an additional opportunity to exchange opinions and impressions between the volunteers and the staff of the nursing homes. It will be a space to talk about eventual problems, perplexities or curiosities. Besides that, the EVS coordinator of the coordinating organization will organize at least 2 personal meetings with the volunteers besides a constant evaluation by email and phone in order to verify if the project is being developed in the proper way.

The volunteers can live inside the host organization, where there is an apartment for three people or in another place, where there are two double rooms with bathroom in common. Both options are inside the nursing homes of elders of the hosting organization. The lodging choice will be always decided by the organization and it's not possible for the volunteers to choose their own accommodation. The volunteers will share the room/apartment with other volunteers (never with elders). Seen that the lodging is inside the nursing homes, the volunteers have to respect the rules of the structure and the environment where they live.

The main role of the volunteers is to collaborate with the staff of the nursing homes in the entertainment sector. The volunteers will be supported by a work supervisors and should never develop activities they don't feel like. They will do a voluntary service and therefore, won't substitute the place of the social worker or educators.

Volunteers will collaborate with the staff of nursing homes with recreational and entertainment activities planned for the elderly. They will support also in assistance and care of the guests under the supervision of qualified workers (including accompanying persons with deambulation restrictions and distribution of meals). Last but not least, they will deal with complementary activities necessary for the accomplishment of the assistance to elders (eg. purchase of food and medicines for guests). In practice, leisure activities include the organization of parties, reading the newspaper together, play music, handicraft activities, small walks around in downtown, bingo, small trips, etc.

The duties of our volunteers will include mainly the participation and the organization of cultural and recreational activities (reading newspapers, listen to music, handicraft workshops, walking tours, game evenings, organization of birthday parties etc.), the participation in daily excursions (in the mountains, to a lake, nearby market, etc.) and the support of the elders in the organization of their daily live (make different kind of purchases, accompaniment to the canteen, etc.).

During the first month the volunteer should familiarize herself/himself with the house where s/he will work in, the activities to be developed, the language and the staff members of the organization. After getting confidence with the everyday routine and the guests, the volunteers will be able to move more independently, improving their language skills and proposing other activities in line with their own interests and competences.

The weekly timetable changes almost every week, according to the entertaining offers (groups which goes to present themselves: children, dance groups, live music, etc) and proposal of the month (Christmas, spring, gardening, etc). Ithe activities could be as it follows:
