Resumo: The host organizationis situated in a small municipality with a population of appr. 28 300. It is also a town with natural ridge formations (from the ice ages), woods and several inland lakes for many kinds of outdoor activities.

We offer a chance to learn a lot about the culture, the language, the everyday life through working with children and families. We also offer a chance to teach us something about another country and it's culture(s). We also offer a chance to get a good look into the educational system, the national/local curriculum and legislation for early education.

In the Playschool a volunteer is an Adult together with the teachers setting a good example of responsible adult behaviour to the children. He/she helps children with daily routines (such as getting dressed for outdoor play) and learning new skills. The work includes both indoor and outdoor activities on a daily basis.

Perfil: Interest to work with young children and participate in the routine work of kindergarten and organize activities for the kids. Interest to learn Finnish language, since since most of the children are Finnish speaking and only learning English as a foreign language.

Tarefas: The volunteer works in an English language playschool for children aged 3 to 6 years. The voluntary workplace is situated in a small municipality. Volunteer stays with a Finnish host family.

The volunteer acts as a living proof of the advantages of learning another language and creates situations where the need of using English and/or finding a common way of expressing oneself occurs naturally to the children.

She/he contributes in the learning also by bringing another view and experience on many everyday matters. The volunteer may also challenge the teachers professional skills by wondering, questioning or asking for the reasoning and argumentation for the educational choices they make: we see this as a learning opportunity for the teachers.

The volunteer may also participate in publishing our yearbook or other printed material, developing our website, preparing teaching materials, creating and/or directing sports (or other) activities etc. according to his/her interests and skills.
