Resumo: Bitola is a city in the southwestern part of the Republic of Macedonia. The city is an administrative, cultural, industrial, commercial, and educational centre. It is located in the southern part of the Pelagonia valley, surrounded by the Baba and Nidze mountains, 14 km north of the border crossing with Greece. It is an important junction connecting the south of the Adriatic Sea with the Aegean Sea and Central Europe. It is known from the Ottoman period as "the city of the consuls", as many European countries had consulates in Bitola. According to some sources, Bitola is the second largest town in the country, and to others the third. The territory of the Republic of Macedonia and the city of Bitola are a part of a very important cultural region. It features a variety of cultural layers representing a number of different periods of time. The depth and breadth of these cultural monuments is incredible and creates a cultural mosaic and a rich cultural diversity, which is of a great importance not only to the country but to the wider region, as well. Bitola is a very symbolic city for developing EVS projects there, as we strongly believe that Macedonia is not only Skopje (the capital and industrial centre) and Ohrid (touristic centre), where there are quite many events are taking place, and also at European level. Bitola is boardering with Greece, and has much more European spirit due to this fact. Bitola is very nice town, surrounded by beautiful nature and bitolians are very open-minded people with generous soul. A European volunteer can serve as great value for the region, because he or she can bring the new vision and " fresh wind " to the activities of hosting organisations, as well as to bring a European dimension in it. " Together Macedonia " is a hosting organisation that depending on the profile and interests of the volunteer provides various activities in different fields: our organisation " Together Macedonia " (1), Institute and musem (2), theatre (3), kindergartens (4) and orphanage (5). The EVS placement will be presented to the volunteer and it will be ensured that the volunteer chooses the project that totally rresponds to his/her expectations.The volunteers will be accommodated in a specially rented flat for them, where they will have individual rooms, common kitchen and bathroom. This will give them the possibility to share time together during eating, and non-formal gatherings, and to have a privacy at the same time. The volunteers will receive money every month in order to buy and cook the food themselves. It is possible that the volunteers would prefer to cook all together - like that gathering together during eating and having family-like atmosphere. All the volunteers will have the possibility to use the office of the organisation that is situated in the city centre, has two rooms and will be fully equipped for comfortable working conditions. 1. " Together Macedonia " Our organisation is located in Bitola, where we have an office with 2 rooms, provided by a Municipality of the city. " Together Macedonia " do not have any employed people yet, and everything what we do is on the volunteer basis. European Volunteer will work along with the other volunteers of the organisation on realisation of projects at local, national and international levels. He/she will be of a great help of everyday activities of the organisational life. 2. Institute and Museum - The National Institution "Institute and Museum"-Bitola, Republic of Macedonia, is a Governmental and non-profit institution, which collects, researches, preserves and presents valuable and unique intangible and tangible multicultural heritage from Bitola and the region, from the Neolithic Age to the present day, and educates a wide variety of visitors, bringing them closer to the artifacts for a better understanding and respect of them. The National Institute and Museum consists of two parts, the Museum, founded in 1934, and the Institute, which was founded and united with the Museum in 1986, and whose main activity is to preserves historic treasures and significant cultural assets for the future. All of the institution goals, tasks, activities and programs, are performed and realized trough the museum departments and common service sector. "Institute and Museum"-Bitola has 45 employees from which 30 are highly educated and are working in a different departments as history, archeology, ethnology, art, conservation etc. Since its founding this National Institution has implemented a variety of projects concerning the protection, preservation and presentation of our cultural heritage. It includes several cultural edifices: Old Military Barrack - today's Museum building, Memorial House of Stevan Naumov Stiv, Memorial House of Goce Delcev, Memorial Museum in the village of Smilevo, Antique archeological site of Heraclea Lyncestis, Art Gallery - Jeni Mosque, Art Gallery - Magaza and Hajdar Kady Mosque. 3. Theatre - National Theatre of Bitola is situated Od st Marsal Tito BB, in the center of Bitola.National Theatre of Bitola is established on 5 September 1946 After big group of yang actors from Bitola finished The faculty of Drama Arts (FDU) together with the colleagues from other academies from the country and abroad came back to their native town an it was for with a decisive for its wider affirmation. National Theatre in Bitola is one of the most affirmative art institucion is one of constants and nobady can imagine the theatre and art life in Bitola without it . During the last years, the National Theatre appears as an organizer of certain festival manifestations, competitions which demand a more professional attitude in the realization of projects of this kind. A confirmation of this is the successful organization of performances from the program at the Bitola Summer Festival, Heraclea Nights, which is a significant contribution to enriching the cultural life of Bitola. Time and social trends in culture are yet another challenge for this organization as well. Up today theatre presents about 500 plays, 10.000 performances with 3.700.000 theatergoers. During the year 2005, this Theatre has staged 7 plays with 217 performances, given in front of 41.623 theatergoers The theatre repertoire consists of domestic, as well as classic and modern plays. The Bitola National Theatre is well known home and abroad. Bitola National Theatre has established a very successful collaboration with: Drama theatre ,,Vera Komisarzevskaja,, - Sankt-Peterburg (Russia), Drama theatre in Pleven, Plovdiv and National Theatre in Sofia (Bulgaria), City Theatre in Istanbul (Turkey), Drama Theatre in Korca (Albania), Theatre in Saraevo (BH), National Theatre-Belgrade and National Theatre in Podgorica, as well as Primorsko Dramsko gledaliste from Nova Gorica (Slovenia). The assemble took part at various international festivals and act as a guest abroad (France, Greece, Poland, Bulgaria, Serbija and Cerna Gora, Albania, former Sovet Union, Russia, Uzbekistan, USA, Canada). Main activity of the volunteer will be to be a support assistant in the regular activities. 4. Kindergardens - These are public institutions eligible for care and education of children. The main kindergarten is situated in Naum Naumovski Borce BB st. Kindergartens are providing health care, food and daily stay for children in accordance with their developmental needs up to 10 years of age, organized and divided in more types of groups. The infant nurseries take complete care and perform certain educational influence on the children up to 2 years of age. The kindergartens (small, medium, big group) are occupied with education and upbringing of children over 3 years of age up to 10 years of age. The combined groups of children are occupied with upbringing and education of children from 8 months to 6 years of age. Work time of the kindergartens in until 22 hours + Saturday. Children there have a lot of activates like playing games, learning a differed things, songs, ballet, English and French language. They have a part of activates dedicated to animals and plants. Usually, they have a lot of activates for a important day like: mothers day, Christmas, New Year's day, etc. In Bitola There are 5 kindergardens and 3 in rural environments of Bitola is the first municipality that took over the working on the them in her charge from the ministry of social policy. They have 98 employees. The volunteer will have opportunity to go to all of the 8 kindergardens, and there to help to take care of the children through games, helping with serving them food, bringing some of them to school, etc. 5. Orphanage - It is situated in St Vasko Karangelevski BB in Bitola. The orphanage is dealing with children aged 0 until 6 year old. It has 51 employees. They take care of the children 24 hours a day. They have various employees in order to provide the children care that they need. Doctors, economic staff, lawyers and so on. So far they have a great help from different organization of Macedonia and abroad, but every help is needed for them, and the volunteer will bring a new dimension to their everyday activities that they never experienced before. The regular activity of the volunteer will be to help to take care of the children, play with them, make exhibitions and if volunteer have some wises of helping someone else in the institution it is possible. Every activity of the volunteer will be defined in agreement. There is no specifically any special skills for the volunteer to have, because he/she will have someone to help trough all time of the work he/she will not be left alone he will be a support assistant in the regular activities.
Perfil: We are interested to host a volunteer who will be able to bring an added value to the project. We wish that he/she is a real volunteer and feels interest in the project and that he/she develops the dynamics of the project that will bring an added value to the working team and also to the inhabitants of the district. Young person has to have a sensibility to adapt in the multicultural environment, and aim to be a volunteer in the structure. The one year projects will favor the better integration. The volunteer has to be motivated to learn Macedonian language, however, the previous skills in it are not obligatory. The computer basic knowledge will also be a great help, as well as the knowledge of some education activities and realization of promotion material, for example. Generally, the interest to work with children and young people, interest in history and inheritage protection, culture and art, or any other passions are very welcome in our project, as they will let the volunteer be really useful for the organization, and at the same time to develop the personal skills and competences.
Tarefas: "During the hosting of the volunteers in our project we will ensure the following learning opportunities for them: "" Get to know NGO sector and work in international field; "" Get to know the social and cultural programmes in Macedonia at local and national levels "" Work with volunteers from other fields, and coming from different cultural background "" Get to know traditions and history of this region "" Get skills in informatics and communication "" Get social skills linked to interculturality "" Get experience to work with children and young people "" Get project management skills "" Get to know the language "" Develop the 8 Key Competences and get a Youthpass at the end of EVS project. Volunteers will be always supported by the hosting organisation in order to apply their own proposals. They will have a chance to get responsibility in proposed activities. Otherwise, they will be included in the activities of the organisation and will help in its everyday activities, but they will not be a substitute of regularly paid workers, as practically everywhere, apart from the placement in ""Together Macedonia"" there is a regularly employed staff that is dealing with the main activities. The volunteer will be their assistance, aiming to bring a new vision to the activities from a different cultural background that she/he comes from. The volunteers will have a chance for the development of their personal project that they should realise during their EVS with the assistance of the host organisation.
The volunteer is asked to bring a clear added value to the project in being active, being "" a volunteer "" and bringing a lot of energy to the activity he/she will realise. The volunteer will bring an additional value to the project during the various key moments of the organisation and also in the everyday tasks. He/she will assist the other volunteering staff by his/her experience, motivation, and just simply the external point of view that can be applied to the activities of the team. 1. "" Together Macedonia "" The volunteers will work in the organisation as an assistance to local volunteers, some of whom are ex-evs themselves from Macedonia and abroad. Together Macedonia does not have any employed people yet, and all the activities realized are done on voluntary basis. The volunteer will use an office of the organisation, but some of the activities will be also outside of it. If needed (in the case of short-term EVS, for example), there will be an additional person in charge, responsible only for the volunteers. In this case, also the system of reinforced mentorship will be normally applied, in the co-operation with the sending organisation. APV will be organized in this case in order to make sure that the project suits the volunteer and to provide adequate facilities for his/her special needs. Volunteers will be the part of the team from the very beginning of the project. The activities that they will take part in are: "" Promotion of local activities of association (communication, newsletter, interviews, updating the webpage, creating and distributing the flyers, meeting in youth houses, municipality, participating in the fairs, concerts, festivals, etc.) "" Promotion of European awareness and explaining the possibilities of youth in Europe and providing info about Europe "" Assistance with international youth exchanges projects as well as support for trainings and seminars
"" Organising and presenting exhibitions, providing and defending European values "" Technical and practical preparation of activities "" regular participation in team meetings, creation of the programme, etc. The activities will also include: "" documentation of the activities of the association (taking pictures, making films, newsletters, webpage, etc) "" language lessons "" realisation of personal ideas and project with assistance of the project coordinator. Valorisation of the project of the volunteer: "" We believe that it is highly important for the volunteer to be a multiplier and when he/she does the EVS we will give them the possibility to develop a project, showing and valorising the EVS activities, and what will help to promote EVS in general. We will provide a space for the volunteer to organise such project that can have different forms of expression (e.g. video reportage, photos, website, blog, organisation of conferences etc…) We will help the volunteers to implement this project and also to finance it. The volunteers will be partly present in the office of the organization in order to prepare the activities, but the main part will be in contact with local reality. If some of those proposals will not be adequate to volunteers capacities, then, less demanding or just different tasks will be proposed. Volunteers will be able to participate in the activities proposed by hosting organisation, like: international projects that bring added value to the community, actions and promotions as well as propose something new in the field we are working. They will have a chance to learn how to manage international project, how to become an active citizen at local level and how to deal with responsibilities as well as how to work and live in an intercultural society. The volunteers will be active about 30 - 35 hours a week from Monday to Friday, approximately from 10.00 to 17.00. The language training will be included to the working hours. The language training will be provided by a young person from Bitola. Saturday and Sunday will be free days. If the volunteers will have to work during the weekends, they can take these days off during the following working days. Besides, the volunteer will have 2 days of holidays per month. As organisation is a volunteer organisation flexibility is asked from the young participant, some time the working shedule will be on evening and week end and it s not necessary possible to plan it in advance. 2. Institute and Museum
The regular activities of the volunteer during the project will be a help and assistance for the works, taking place in the Institutions. These include: 1. Academic paintings (retouch of icons and frescos) 2. Conservation of mosaics, frescos and icons 3. ""Decoding"" - reading of inscriptions and texts (e.g. on the monuments, or manuscripts) 4. Architecture works 5. Technical support (preparation of exhibitions, gardeners and other on-going works) 6. Archeological works 7. Helping with applications for cultural grants However, none of previous knowledge or experience in the above-mentioned fields is required. Nevertheless, interest and motivation are very welcome, as it will help the volunteers to get into the process faster, and to get an amazing learning experience. There will be also a space and support for the realisaton of individual project of the volunteer. We are also open for the volunteers' ideas and ways of doing their tasks. We are convinced that the volunteers will get new interesting experience. 3. Theatre Main activity of the volunteer will be to be a support and assistant in the life of the theatre. The volunteer has to know that these will not be a very structurated activities of the same schedule every day, as the theatre is functionning due to its plays, and depending on the season there will be periods more busy, and less busy ones. The volunteer will be the part of the theatre team. During the first month of the project, the volunteer will have a time for integration into the team, and to understand how the theatre is functionning. This will give him/her the time to receive the presentation of the activities, existing in the theatre, to try several of them, and to see which ones are better fitting to his/her personal capacities. There will be two main options for the volunteer to choose from : 1. he/she will help with the organisation of the theatre plays, help with simple tasks and everyday life of the theatre 2. If he/she shows an initiative the volunteer can be more included in the marketing, promoting the theatre plays in the tourist info office, hotels and other places, where there is traffic of tourists. All in all, the proposed activities for the volunteers will be the following: - help with the organisation of the plays, spectacles, performances, concerts - technical support (lights, props, changing the scenes, etc) -working on the promotion and marketing of the plays As for marketing part, the volunteer will have a possibility to work in the cooperation with the tourist centre of Bitola - like that, explaining to the guests of the city the programme of the performances that theatre is planning, and inviting them to visit them. At the same time, the volunteer can be a good link between the visitors of Bitola and the theatre. 4. Kindergarden - The balance of the volunteer's tasks will be the following: * 50% of the volunteer activity will be direct working with children in the kindergarden. This work includes: - Activities for the children - drawing, dance, music, games, theatre, sports activities etc - Participation in preparation of the summer-camp for children and work in the camp ( organizing various out door and indoor games, some music and theatre activities, artistic moments - drawing, painting, dancing, going for walks - all together with our staff) - Help with meals in the kindergarden - assisting in the organisational side, looking after the children. * 25% of the volunteer activity will be related to work in the surrounding district. The volunteers will accompany the social worker during the work with the children and their families in the neighbourhood. This work includes: - Assistance of the social workers in the kindergarden, including common activities for the people living in the district -Decoration of the kindergarden by drawing on the walls together with the children, preparing the decorations for the holidays - Involvement of local people into these activities, promotion of the activities among the people living in the district etc * 25% of the volunteer activity will be language training, other work-related training and personal support / evaluation activities There will be no administrative duties for the volunteer. 5. Orphanage - The regular activity of the volunteer will be the following: - preparing the events together with the children (exhibitions, concerts, fests, etc) - helping with the hygiene of the children (cleaning them after eating, playing and so on) - helping with feeding the children - taking care of their health (they have medicine personal in the institution that tack care of the children so volunteer can help in there work with constant help of the employees there) - playing with them during the day they have there own toys or with games, also helping with new toys that comes like donation few times a year. - making their own toys through various methods of handicraft. - Involvement of local people into these activities of the institution (by meetings, press-conferences, and invitation to the organised events) - tacking care with the correspondence, especially the one that will be in English, or other language that the volunteer would know "
