Resumo: The project is right next to the city park. It is within easy reach of the historic city centre and the next larger shopping centre (10 min. by bike). The city is situated in a beautiful scenic landscape at the edge of the Harz-mountains. The neighbourhood to this low mountain range shows geographically in the city and is a reason for the divison in upper and lower city. About 45.000 inhabitans live in the city. There is a theatre, a cinema, several public swimming pools, an indoor adventure pool, several museums, a climbing tower and high wire park as well as diverse bars and discos. In the city has a university of applied sciences and a college for foreign students. That is why many young people live in the city - being not only from Germany but from all around the world.

The project is optimally connected to the public transport system. A tram stop is right in front of the buidling.
The programs of experiential education take mainly place on the city centre in the high wire park and the climbing tower.
Mobile events are carried out in the city as well as in the surrounding communities (within a radius of up to 40km).

Perfil: 6-9 months of voluntary service in the project require the following personality traits: the volunteer should be friendly and open-minded, committed, flexible, patient, independent, able to deal with conflicts and work in a team.

The volunteer should enjoy working with children and adolescents and be willing to realise own ideas and projects.
As a matter of course the volunteer should be reliable, punctual and work well organized. Moreover, as working times can vary depending on the project, willingness to work flexible hours is needed.

We expect a sensitive and open-minded treatment of disabled people and respect for their handicap.
Most importantly the volunteer should be aware of his/her own responsibility for the success of the voluntary service. He/She should understand the task as a great chance and challenge for his/her personal development.
Our vacancies are published at Youthnetworks. Basically we answer all incoming requests if a serious interest is noticable. In case the minimum standards cannot be fulfilled, we inform the volunteers/their sending organisations about the reasons for their rejection.

Volunteers that meet the requirements will be sent our application form. This serves to provide us with a comprehensible picture of the volunteer's motivation and existing competencies.
Incoming applications will be evaluated according to our expectations and the current team. We try to create a balanced but mixed team regarding gender and nationality.
The applications will be transfered to the hosting project which then makes the final decision and informs the volunteer/their sending organisation.

Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: Service and learning opportunities:
The project offers a variety of tasks and activities. Sporty, movement-oriented activities, activities for relaxation and creation of a harmonic group atmosphere as well as healthy nutrition provide the volunteer with a range of opportunities to bring in their personal interests, to develop their knowledge and skills or simply to get ideas for new fields of activity.
The major task of the hosting project lies in the development, implementation and postprocessing of program modules. Such include game and sport activities, cooperation games, healthy snacks and cocktails. Environmental education, global learning (fair trade) and experiential education are essential issues in the realisation of programs.

The volunteers have the opportunity for development and realisation of own program modules, e.g. country-based workshops, language animation, thematic food parties.
The volunteer supports the project within the framework of regular climbing activities, outdoor activities as well as organising children's and family festivities.

Internal opportunities of continuing education and acquisition of various key skills:
Methodology and didactics of extracurricular education: (continuing) education of experiential pedagogy in the high wire park and climbing tower, introduction into canoeing, hikes (e.g. with GPS device).
The volunteers are included actively in the planning and realisation of new projects. They learn to plan and transfer their own ideas from a written concept towards an executable activity.

The daily and direct contact with the target groups (children, adolescents) promotes the young volunteers' social competence, capacity of teamwork and willingness to compromise.
Duties and activities of volunteers:
The hosting project's fields of activity include: youth hostel and education centre, as well as open work with children and adolescents. The following activities are offered within this framework: taking care of groups of guests, preparation and realisation of program modules, decoration and creative interior design
Open work with children and adolescents: support of climbing activities in the high wire park and artificial climbing wall, outdoor activities (hikes, GPS), city rallies, canoeing, children's and family festivities, mobile youth work.

Role of volunteers:
The service of volunteers allows the organization to offer additional activities that increase the attractivity of the institution and the work in youth camps by bringing in the intercultural aspect, the volunteer's cultural experiences and language.

So the existing program of the institution is extended to the intercultural dimension (e.g. language animation, food parties, country-based workshops).
The presence of European volunteers itself contributes to sensitise children and adolescents for tolerance towards foreign nations and supports the very idea of the European Voluntary Service.
The joint decision on the concrete main area of service is specified together with the volunteer. In the first two months the volunteers become familiar with the concept and programs and obtain the necessary knowledge and methods.

The volunteers are involved in the planning and preparation of the single activities. In doing so they learn to make a checklist and thus take into account all important factual and organisational questions which they then work off one by one. An existing quality management system helps with the introductory training to the task field as it describes the core processes of work in detail and serves as a plan of action.
It is the aim that the volunteer is able to develop program modules independently and realise them together with other staff members.

That way it is conceivable for example that a volunteer with appropriate previous knowledge (or after gaining this knowledge in the project) secures and instructs children and adolescents in climbing activities.
Major focus in the realisation of tasks is spontaneity, creativity, empathy and team spirit of the young volunteers.
The weekly workload is 35 hours, times of language courses count as working time.

Holidays and additional days off are planned in accordance with the volunteer. He/She is entitled to take two days off per month.
Free time is not bound to weekends due to the character of the project.
Possible overtime in the main season (May - September) is coordinated with the assignment location.
