Resumo: The school is located in the little town (pop. 1500). The town is situated on Route 176 between Horsens and Herning. The school is easily accessed by bus with links to the train both to Århus, the 2nd biggest city in DK and Copenhagen, the capital of DK. This is approximately 3 hours away by both train and car. The nearest airport is Billund, 40 minutes by car. The school can provide a bicycle as there are many good cycle paths in the surrounding area.

We currently have room for 134 students at our school with fairly equal balance between girls and boys. The students come from a variety of backgrounds both financially, socially and academically and all are welcome to apply to the school for the 9th or 10th grade. The students live and study at the school for one year only. We have 2 classes in the 9th grade and 4 in the 10th. The majority of the students come from the local region, but the school attracts students from all over Denmark.
There is no form of entrance exam, but we expect our students, and staff for that matter, to appreciate that our school has focus on the academic standards as well of the other subjects.

The studensts must understand that they will be living away from home for the best part of a year and are expected to participate in a small community, where teamwork is very important considering that the students live, work, clean and eat together at the school. Any volunteer would be expected to also play a vital role in this community and quickly develop a personal, yet professional relationship to the students as well as strive to maintain the school´s standard.

The school is well equipped with many facilities to accommodate an assistant´s stay both socially and academically. The school will provide accommodation for the volunteer in a one-family house owned by the school. Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided during the week and the volunteer will have the option to join the students for meals at weekend, too. Our kitchen staff can cater for allergies and particular dietry requirements. There is also a gym and a swimming pool at the school.

The volunteer should also be aware that there is no smoking on school grounds and that alcohol is not permitted on the premises. Danish law requires anyone working with children under the age of 16 to have a clean criminal record and have no privious convictions where children are involved.
By living at the school there is also the opportunity to participate in all of the school´s activities during the week and at weekends, with the added possibility of interacting with both the students and the staff on a daily basis, especially if the volunteer is interested in sports, outdoor life, music and arts. It is therefore of the utmost importance that the volunteer is out-going, sociable and has a sence of humor. The volunteer must also be able to communicate to large audiences and relate to young people to make the most of their stay here.

The school will also endeavor to help create a social network for the volunteer outside of school hours and aid the assistant in familiarizing themselves with the local area. As well as helping them to adjust to the new surroundings, country, and culture and so on. The school has a good relationship with other schools in the local area and it may well be the case that we can help the assistant to establish contact with other volunteers or exchange students. Danish lessons are available nearby in Herning.

Perfil: As a school, we are preferably looking for a volunteer with previous experience working with young people and some type of teaching experience. Most of our students speak english at a high level, and to ensure that the volunteer has the best possible chance of establishing contact with our students, members of staff and others, they must be proficient in English and a knowledge of German, Spanish or French a bonus. It would be helpful if they are creative, talkative an out-going, with an ability to communicate to large audiences. The volunteer should also be hard-working, flexible and engaging as well as have a passion for languages and travel. A knowledge of politics and current affairs would be beneficial.
We would like to ensure that we receive the right candidate by carrying out interviews on skype.
Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The planned activities for the project will vary depending on the volunteer´s personal background and previous experience, but we would expect that the volunteer has at least had some experience working with children, has an interest for foreing languages and a passion for sharing and imparting knowledge about their country. Previous teaching experiences is recommended, because where appropriate and applicable, the volunteer will be treated as any other teacher at our school and we would expect the assistant to be prepared for the responsibility that goes with this. The school will provide a timetable for the volunteer, which will offer them the chance to use all their skills, liguistically, artistically, socially and so on.
The volunteer would be involved in the areas of the curriculum that where relevant for their key skills. However, we would like to give the volunteer the opportunity to work as both an assistant and as a guest teacher. The assistant will work in co-operation with the other teachers within the class and with small groups to help the students improve their skills. If the volunteer could contribute with musical or other creative activities as part of our extracurrucular program that would be wonderful. Participation in sports or coaching experience would also be beneficial. Furthermore, a volunteer with skiing experience would be able to take part in our annual ski trip.
We would expect the volunteer to engage in all aspects of the school´s life. There will be plenty of opportunities to assist in the other daily tasks of a boarding school such as monitoring of cleaning and meal times, planning evening activities, helping with homework and so on. We also hope that the volunteer will offer skills or an area of expertise that we are lacking and we will do our best to accommodate this. For example, if the assistant were from a country where we do not have their native language as a subject, we would like to offer our students the possibility to learn that language. Another example could be a particular sport that we do not currently offer our students. We hope that the volunteer will provide first-hand knowledge of their country, culture and native language.
As part of the project the volunteer will be regarded as an ambassador for their nation and culture as well as their language and therefore it is important that any volunteer has a sound knowledge of their own culture and country. Knowledge and an interest of current affairs and politics would further allow the volunteer to contribute and get involved in the school´s activities.
Finally, the volunteer should be hard-working and flexible. It is important to understand that the school is technically open 24/7 and work hours often reflect this with evening and occasional weekend duties. However, duties will never exceed the maximum working allowance and should the volunteer be asked to work weekends, time will be given in lieu.
