Resumo: Outline the project environment for the suggested voluntary Service, including the local community where the project will take place (e.g. geographical, social and economical environment). If the host placement is located in a live-in community, please include the rules and conditions that apply also for the volunteer.

The project is located on a small farm, in a village. This centre is organised by Hoting organization. Youngsters that are not able to go to school because of difficulties, lack of confidence. During the days different activities are going on, organised by youngsters, operators or volunteers. The farm consists of different rooms for different workshops ( music, movie, sewing, herbs, cooking, art, wood, painting, …), a garden and animals. the organization is using and taking care of some of these places and the volunteer will have the opportunity to be part of the daily life.

The volunteer will live on the farm
The village 12 kilometers from the city in the Flemish part of Belgium. You have to note that the farm is located outside the centr in rural setting. There is a village centre at 2km with a bancomat, bakery, little shop.

This rural setting is located in the region, know for its little hills, wineyards and nature reserves. The surrounding is very nice for walking, running, cycling. Although it is located very rural you have very good connection to 2 cities.

The nearest city is app 6km, where you have a swimming pool, cinema, library, train station and buses to get to other parts of Belgium. By bike it takes you 20minutes to get there and with the bus evenonly 5 minutes. The bus is riding every hour.

The city It takes you 20 minutes with the bus to get there. Even in weekends you have on friday and saturday a bus till 2h30 in the night. It is a student city with lots of shops, bars, library, sport centre... and all what you need.

In Centrum the volunteer will have a Sleeping room. This is your private space. Kitchen, living room and bathroom is in common with the project and/or other volunteers. The volunteer must be able to live independently. He/She will get a budget to do the shopping. In the kitchen everything is available to cook. In the week you have several buses, on sundays every 2 hours. During your stay in Belgium, the bike will become your best friend to get easily to different places nearby.

The Volunteer will live together with 2 other international EVS volunteers. These volunteers are working in another project of the organization. She/He has to be aware that she/he will live in an intercultural setting. Sharing the house with others means that some agreements will be made either to make sure the volunteer has his privacy and also that common space are kept clean for use of others.

Perfil: SOCIAL SKILLS: As we are working with youngsters with difficult background, we want the volunteer to be aware of his influences to these youngsters. Able to deal with young adults and have social skills to communicate with these youngsters. Being open minded and flexible in this work are very welcome. As he/she is working with youngsters with difficulties, he/she has to understand that all kind of problems he/she gets to know from the youngsters are private and not to be communicated outside the project.

CREATIVE: Volunteers that have ideas for projects, activities or have knowledge of certain issues that can give an extra dimension to the project are very welcome

INDEPENDENT: A volunteer who is able to organise his/her work by her own after a while. Taking initiative for own activities and plan them according the the shedule.

The volunteer has to be willing to evolve to an independent way of living in the community. There won’t be all the time a mentor to take care of cooking, going somewhere,…

We prefer a volunteer that makes the choice for a long term period from August/September to June/July.. This to make sure the volunteer has the time to integrate and build up knowledge, independence and integration in the project.

We will collect all motivation letters one month before the deadline at least. It is important to us to have some conversations before we apply to make sure the match for our project is good. So we don't accept last minutes candidates.

Where are we looking for:
have social skills to communicate, get in contact with the youngsters through his/her tasks on the project.
• mature enough to deal with the youngsters, get along with non-motivated youngsters with behaviour problems.
• Being able to organise some work by yourself, taking initiative for own projects and activities to develop.
• Open minded and willing to discuss and think together with the team about your dealing with the youngsters and task, about the methods,...
• able to live in rural setting
- transport is by bus and bike, train station 5km from the house
- independent in living, cooking, taking care of yourself
- live in community with others , share places in common with others except your sleeping room ;)
- willing to learn Dutch (Nederlands)
-Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: From the moment the volunteer arrives she/he will be supported to find his/her way in Belgium and the village he/she lives. We will take care that a network is created around the volunteer, so that his/her social life can develop easily. The first months (when arriving in August) will be dedicated to learning Dutch either at the university or a school.
The volunteer will have the opportunity to learn about:
Working with socially disadvantaged youngsters and experience how social work is organised in Belgium.

Some pedagogical methods used in the project to work with non-motivated youngsters
Have the opportunity to develop an own project and experience personal growth in this experience.

Work on a day centre in rural setting and taking care of the environment

• THE role of EVS volunteers in the host organisation.
The volunteer will be part of the the organization crew made of youngsters, social workers and volunteers. His or her role is to do activities (ateliers) according to his/her passions and to stimulate the curiousness of these youngsters to get in action. He/she is not the person that will help the youngsters individually with his problems, but a person that is there to do things together and create positive experiences for these youngsters. Being a person with his own being amongst all the youngsters. He/she takes care of the place together with the youngsters, other volunteers and facilitators.

Mainly the volunteer will set up some ateliers (handcrafts, art, cooking,...) according to her capacities and passions. Important is the She/he can work on the ateliers independent after a while. Participation of youngsters is not always an evidence! We are working more or less in an open space environment: What happens, happens - It starts when it start - the rule of the 2 feet

There will be an evolution in the role of the volunteer during his stay:
The first month (when arriving in august) will be dedicated to an intensive language course of Dutch. 4 times a week the volunteer will attend lessons and the other days take time to study Dutch. Meanwhile they get to know the environment.

The first weeks(September) will be focused on integration and getting to know the environment. Important is that the volunteer can move and go around independently in the surrounding of the village. Knowing where the shops are, how to take a bus or train, some persons in the neighbourhood,…There will be time to get to know the organisation and his network. Because the project is a part of the association, we will take time to explain and make clear who is doing what and where is happening what.

Till October the volunteer has the time to participate in daily ongoing tasks in the organisation (see schedules). He/she can experience the surrounding and our methods. During these weeks there is also made extra time for language courses. As it is important to be able to communicate with the youngsters we give the volunteer the opportunity to learn Dutch.

At the end of October we plan an evaluation where the volunteer can tell about his/her experiences and how he/she likes to continue.The volunteer will grow in being independent active in the project. As she/he will know the project and the youngster better, she/he will be able to get ideas about developing own activities or ideas. There will be made time to evaluate this and make sure everyone feels good with what is happening.
A minimum of 10 months seems required to us to reassure the volunteer can grow and take his time to find his place in this organisation. Working with these youngsters is not an evidence, so we want to give the volunteer time to integrate, communicate with youngsters, create projects and go home with a rich experience. The organization has a cyclus like school. It starts in September and it ends in June.We think that experiencing this whole cyclus will be the most successful experience of this project. So we prefer volunteers that go for this long term experience following the Schoolyear.

• the activities in which the volunteers could be involved
the organization is running during the school period from Monday till Friday. During the whole week there are different workshops and tasks depending on what the youngsters, social workers and volunteers planned. There is a schedule of the week that gives structure to all persons involved in the project. Off course it is possible to make some changes in this schedule. Changes are made by everyone on a plan meeting on thursday for the volunteers.

Every morning everyone is sitting together to tell what he will to do and the daily tasks will be divided. At the end of the day everyone is sitting together to share his experiences, to tell how the day was for him/her. The workshops that are coming back in the week schedule are:
Music: everyone is learning to play instruments or writing songs, sing together and even sometimes they prepare some real concert for an open day.
Handicraft: making different kinds of things with wool, paper, painting, bracelets, making candles …
Art: painting or other crazy things that shows something of their inner self
Cooking: trying a new receipt or just make an ordinary Belgian meal.

Wood: making a table and paint it, a cupboard or some wooden art
Garden: taking care of flowers, vegetables,…
Some other activities that happened are: sewing, photographing, cycling or another sport, visiting a place or going to the sea, a city, …
And of course also the daily tasks like cleaning, dishes,renovation, decoration,...
As you see there are a lot of possibilities in our organisation. This makes it a big space for creating your on project, but also a big space to get lost. That is why we will help the volunteer as much as possible in giving sense to his being in this project. Experiential learning is not only a way of working with our youngsters, but also with the volunteer. Employers of the organization and the wissel are very flexible and easy going persones that are open for all kind of ideas as long as it is workable in the budget. We will make time for coaching and adjust the program of the volunteer.
And the volunteer is free to develop new projects. In summer there is the possibility to develop a camp for the youngsters of the institutions.
