We offer professional help in the following three areas: Education and Training with special focus on vocational training, and sessions where we encourage the individual personality. Work: Companies in our area offer workplaces for handicapped people. Living: Our house was built with regard to the special needs of our clients. As diverse as our occupants, as diverse is our offer: Handicapped persons can either live in our home all the time or they live in separate flats in the nearby area with special support given by our staff. The project for volunteers from the EU-kprogramme Youth in Action is located in one of our homes in Schwäbisch Hall. Presently 31 persons suffering from mental handicaps are looked after by 16 staff members (educators, staff specially trained to work with handicapped people, group assistants, domestic scientists, young men doing community service and trainees). The core of our work is to enable our clients' to lead and live their individual life plans as independently as possible. This goal can only be realized after the individual has been given necessary support and security. These are mainly: basic domestic supply, support in personal hygiene, help in arranging leisure activities, promote social skills, help in mobility and orientation. This all is based on using and further developing individual competencies.

Perfil: The volunteer should above all be open to working with disabled, elderly people. Previous experience is not necessary and it is more important that they are interested in the work and willing to get involved in this type of work. Communication is very important in our work. The volunteers should be receptive to the needs of our occupants and introduce their knowledge and experience from their homeland.

Tarefas: The volunteer should assist the team in their daily work. He should accompany the handicapped people to courses at the adult education centre, organize with them their leisure time, help them in using public transportation, etc. The volunteer will support the handicapped people in their every-day activities and offers his assistance with the personal hygiene. The volunteer will participate in the everyday life of an institution of integrative support. She/He will learn about how to develop and live individual programmes aimed at forstering our clients' independence. Additionally the volunteer can learn more about different views regarding mental handicaps prevalent in our society and learn to deal with them. In the context of this frame, the volunteer will have opportunites to develop and implement own projects. They will be accompanied by our staff members. We once for example had a volunteer who co-organized a group travel. Other volunteers arranged theme or folkloric evenings about their home countries.
