Resumo: The association has taken over the task to support the local high school but also the other schools in our area. We are working to develop the quality together with other involved groups; beside this it's also duty of our association to help young people while growing up. On purpose we focus not only on school but also on social and compensational issues. Together with the medium- and low level school (Realschule, Hauptschule and Förderschule) the highschool is in one school centre which means that the work of our association is also focussed on to the other schools.

This is a municipality with about 17.000 inhabitants in the south. itself is located in the North-West of Germany – the distance to the Duch border is about 25 KM, to the North Sea Shore its about 70 KM. It's a quite rural area with respectable people. The contingent of migrants is quite low which means there is almost no chance getting to know other cultures. Wages, but also costs are not very high and the longterm unemployment rate is unfortunately quite high.

This is a small town (17.000 inh.), the next bigger town is Leer (35.000 inh., distance 18 km). There are busses running eat day time – for the evenings and busses there's a bus-by-call-system. The next bigger town is Oldenburg (130.000 inh., distance 60 km) which can be reached by train from Leer. Also the Netherlands with the city of Groningen is not too far away.

Perfil: First of all the volunteer should be open minded and curious in a positive way. Open for new impressions, new familiarity, and new framework conditions.He or she should be keen getting to know our culture and getting to know the people who are living here. He or she should be interested to work with young people in the age of 10-16 years. It would be great if he or she is interested in sport, creative design in different ways.

Knowledge about computer would be helpful but not absolutely required. Basic knowledge in german language would be necessary for making sure to get in contact even to those to young people who are not able to speak English.
Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The volunteers would get the chance in our project to get deep experiences in another culture and to reflect these with support of an experienced tutor. They will get the possibility to learn the German language – we'll offer a language course in cooperation with the local adult education. We’ll provide experiences in group education and youthwork at the stitch between formal and informal education. This might be an attractive prospect for somebody who is thinking of working in the educational sector on a long view. In close cooperation with other associations and local youth work we offer a deep view into way of life of German youngsters and different kinds of youth work.

The volunteer supports the school life and the leisure activities of the youngsters. She/he makes use of her/his cultural and personal qualities to help the children and youngsters learn about themselves as part of their society and as European citizen. During the whole day the volunteer can offer games, workshop activities or just talks to those students who at that moment don't attend lessons. Besides, she/he can do side activities for the more talented students as well to those with special needs. Especially in the specialized school for disadvantaged and/or disabled students this can be a good chance to support the students as well as the (not teaching) staff. Another activity for the volunteer can be to supervise and support youngsters attending the mensa, the library and study room.

After having learnt about the possibilities the schools can offer (which will take about four weeks), the volunteer should start developing and running own acitivities, workshop etc. Of course, she/he will get any support and advice that might be helpful. Coorperation with local associations (on the field of sport, youth club, library etc.) provide further possibilities to implement own ideas and facilities to the benefit of the youngsters.
