Resumo: The Republic of Estonia is a country in Northern Europe in the Baltic region. It is bordered to the north by Finland across the Gulf of Finland, to the west by Sweden, to the south by Latvia, and to the east by the Russian Federation. The territory of Estonia covers 45,227 km² and is influenced by a temperate seasonal climate. Estonia is a democratic parliamentary republic and is divided into fifteen counties. The capital and largest city. Estonia has been a member of the United Nations since 17 September 1991, of the European Union since 1 May 2004 and of NATO since 29 March 2004. With only 1.3 million inhabitants, it comprises one of the smallest populations of the European Union countries
The organization situates at the border of the poorest areas in the city in North. Historically North has developed into an industrial area together with mostly wooden housing areas for the workers. North is one of the 8 administrative districts of the city with an of 17.3 km2 area and population of 52 573.
About 60% of population in Kopli are Russians.
The social centre situates in the church and has small, but active congregation in a quiet neighbourhood surraunded with small family houses and near to the sea (20 minutes away).
There is also a playground and park nearby to spend some time outside with children.
Flat for volunteers situates few bus stops away from the social centre in a neighbourhood with higher appartment-buildings. There’s a supermarket not far from the house as well as schools and kindergartens. People living in the area, are from lower or middle class. The centre of city is about 15 minutes away by bus. The sea is few minutes away.
Perfil: - 18 - 30 years old
- outgoing, creative and active, interested in helping children and youngsters with fewer opportunities
- driving licence recommended
- physical and mental strenght
- ready to work with children and youngsters for five days a week, helping them with homework, taking part of different activities organised for children, also camping-trips on summer time, which can last for few weeks.
- ready to work from 12.00-18.00 for five days a week. It’s also possible to spend time with children more than that if they wish (for example to take them out to some event on weekends).
Tarefas: Voluntary Service in the organization will give a good learning experience for a volunteer about the work in different cultural environment as well as taking part of the integration process between young Russian and Estonian children. There’s a great possibility to get to know different cultures, nationalities. Volunteer can also get learning experience on the social field, working with children with lesser possibilities, also helping in work with whole risk group families, taking part of home visits to see the homely situation of families living in poverty; volunteer will support social workers in their work to help children and people in need (also homeless people), in that way getting the experience of different fields of social work.
Volunteer will also have experience to live independent life in different cultural environment, community.
Volunteers will have a meeting with his supervisor regularly every week to discuss the evaluation process, working problems, how to improve volunteer’s working opportunities, finding solutions, discussing the possibilities to have more responsibilities and opportunities in volunteer’s daily tasks if wished so by a volunteer.
Volunteers will be provided with the place to live – a flat near the social centre, food, and also support by our social workers. There will be a supporting person in the social centre. Our institution is opened 24 hours a day, every day, which provides the support from here anytime if needed. Volunteer will not be left alone with children and doesn’t have the same responsebilities as our social workers.
• The role of EVS volunteers in our organisation will be:
To support the social workers in their every day work, taking part of events organised for children, also organise different activities themselves. Role of the volunteer is to be connecting link between children, youngsters and social workers. The driver’s licence is also needed for outings and travelling with children.
• The activities in which the volunteers could be involved and the activities the volunteers could create in our organisation:
Getting the contact with children at risk, helping them with school work, taking them out to different events, organising different activities (artistic, sportive, picnics, excursions etc), taking part of camping-trips.
Since now our volunteers have organized with our children:
Circus activities, Christmas plays, karaoke evenings, excursions and also took part of camping-trips, home visits, teached the quitar, dances and languages, filled children’s spare time in educational, playful and exciting ways.
