Resumo: The hosting organization is located in a municipality with a little less than 12000 inhabitants situated in southwest of Sweden. The culture school is situated in the regional centre. The regional centre has approximately 3000 inhabitants.

Living in the town means you are close to everything you need. We have a rich social life with many organizations for example sports, culture, international cooperation and nature. At the local indoor swimming pool you can not only swim or relax in the jacuzzi but also engage in a wide range of sports.

The town a rich nature with many beautiful lakes and fishing is popular. The culture school is situated only two minutes walk from the lake.

The town is situated about 30 minutes from one of the laggest cities. It is easy to go there by public transport.
The town is quite a rich municipality with low unemployment records and few people reporting longtime illness.
The town has got active sports clubs and can offer different kinds of sports and training.

The schools in the town often have foreign assistant teachers working there so a volunteer could most likely find other people in the same situation. This can be comforting in the beginning although we hope that he/she will be well integrated in the local Swedish society.

There will be fully furnished rooms (to share or single) and the volunteer will eat lunch at the local high school during working days. It is also a meeting place for the volunteer to meet Swedish youth and hopefully this will be an opportunity for the students to network. They will shop and cook their own food during weekends and holidays. The volunteers will be able to walk or ride a bike to the school and the school will arrange bikes for them at their arrival.

Perfil: You will be able to influence your situation and make the most of the stay in Sweden.

You will study Swedish. This will be arranged through the "Swedish for immigrant education" which is provided by the municipality to all people coming to live in Sweden from another country.

The Culture school is a creative workplace and there is always room for new influences and ideas. Volunteers with ideas about projects and events are very welcome although this is not a requirement.
Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The school is responsible for several different events during the year, such as concerts, global festivals, exhibitions and so on. They will help the staff of the school to arrange the above mentioned events. We can offer the volunteers an opportunity to both study and tutor pupils in art, music, theatre and dance.

You as a volunteer will be able to influence the work assigned to a big extent. You should be interested in culture and it is of great value if the volunteer plays an instrument or is involved in theatre, dance, film, media etc. You can help out with the new students and maybe offer extra help for those with special needs. You will experience a varied work with different work hours, flexible and exiting tasks that will make them grow as persons. We know from experience that making your own schedule is the best way to develop and to make the best of your time. You will, in a fun way, learn how to be responsible alone or together with others. That is all up to you! Working at the culture school will be a varied job with great friends and colleagues and lots of culture!
Your new skills would be:
- How to plan and organize events/project coordination
- Freedom and a forced self-responsibility
- Swedish social knowledge
- Integration issues
- Further skills in different computer software
- Communication
- Swedish
- Cooperation
- New cultural and social skills
- Techniques and training for making presentations for different target groups
- The opportunity to learn new instruments, dances, theatre etc.
Your mentor and you will have a start up meeting, where you will plan your stay and your learning plan during your EVS. Then you will discuss and set up goals, how you will reach these and how you will evaluate them during your stay here. If you want to, a part of the job could be arranging an exchange between cultural organizations in other countries which is a big task for of the Culture school.

WHAT WILL THE ROLE BE FOR THE EVS VOLUNTEERS IN THE HOST ORGANISATION?

We want to give you as a volunteer a chance to fulfill a dream by developing your skills. Perhaps by finding or develop your own project within the project.
The job description will be designed in accordance with the volunteer’s wishes and qualifications. Your role could be to help us teach and arrange concerts, shows, performances, camps etc.
You will be that extra helping hand that is always very much appreciated. Receiving a volunteer would also mean that we sometimes can do a little bit more for our students. For example give someone with special needs a little extra help learning to play the guitar, or making a concert even better.
However you should not get more responsibility than you want. The supervisor will always be there to support you and be over-all responsible. The responsibility of the volunteer will depend on the age and experience of her/him.
You will be treated as part of the staff and will of course be included in all meetings and social events. Everyone will be informed about your arrival in good time. The staff at the culture school is all very excited about the possibility to receive yet another foreign volunteer. You will be introduced to everyone during the first day and will of course be introduced around not only at the school.

PROPOSED ACTIVITIES FOR EVS VOLUNTEERS:

You could be involved in tutoring pupils, helping to organize concerts, shows, performances, camps etc. We welcome influences and knowledge from other cultures in all our subjects. We will show you a variety of possible task and then together with you discuss which would be the most suitable. If you will stay between February and May you will help organizing the global festival during the European week.

We do not want to state exactly what you should do because we think that each volunteer is unique and should be given the opportunity to influence his/her schedule. However the main areas where we feel that we would need a great help to have a volunteer is;
Teaching students at the Culture school, for example supporting the main teacher if anyone of the students need a little extra help.
Help organize when we arrange concerts ands show, which is something we do a lot.
Organize youth exchange between the city and organizations in other countries.
Help different sections in the municipality like making movies or shows for different events. This is one of the things that the Culture school works with on ordinary basics.
