Resumo: The town has about 200.000 inhabitants and is oneof the biggest cities of the Region.The city has an important harbour for freight and ferrys at the Baltic sea and one of the biggest German port for cruise ships. Economically and culturally it is the most important city. It is characterized by its beaches, its harbour, the mediterrean Hanse trade union and the corresponding red brick gothic architecture and its university which was founded in 1419.

The city has historically been part of the grand duchy of until 1918 and then part of the free. Economically it is dominated by shipyards and sea transport companies, tourism and services. The biggest employer is the university. It is also characterized by the structural change in Eastern Germany and the related social problems.

The city has a very high unemployment rate, gentrification because young people move to other parts of Germany, a high percentage of people relying on social welfare and a connected risk of xenophobic and extremist opinions.

The organization shares his office with another association which organizes European projects. The garage and an apartment are all in the same building. It is well connected to public transportation and supermarkets. The beach is 15 minutes by local train.

Perfil: The EVS volunteers should first and foremost be open minded. They should be self confident, out-going and have no reservations against disadvanteg young people. The most important is that the volunteers identify themselves with the aims of the project and bring in their own set of skills. The organization is looking for volunteers who like working in an office as well as volunteers who are hands on and like to work in a project.

Should there be moren than one application, the organization will evaluate all applications according ot the fore mentioned criteria and to the experience and challenges of the EVS. The sending organisation should in this case interview the volunteer. Decision will be taken by all poroject partners in consensus.

Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The EVS project "Everybody needs a second chance" shall consist of two parts. For one the EVS volunteers shall help organize European youth projects. These projects promote tolerance and respect and let the young people be part of building a European future and a European citizenship. Projects cover a variety of different topics, from cultural events to bio-diversity or German history (i.e. in the concentration camp of Ravensbrück). The EVS volunteers shall contribute in the preparation and wrap-up of the projects and establish a transfer of knowloedge with the sending organizations.

The second part is the support of Kompass' work with young offenders. The organization has established a place where young offenders can find a place to stay and support in re-integration, looking for a job or dealing with the administration.

The volunteer will get a basic understanding of social work and help to reintegrate. He will get experience in organizing social projects under the European framework, in project management in general and in how to integrate social media (including CMS system). The utmost of our projects are done under the Youth in action programme 1.1.

Besides the volunter should under the supervision of an experienced project coordinator develop his own idea for a European Youth Exchange (especially topic and activities). The organization wil try to get this idea to life. Fir example The organization has a partner who wants to organize a cultural festival. We have the experience and infrastructure but lack the capacity to develop this project.

Other than that we are open to any ideas the volunteer has for new projects. It's always good to get an outsiders perspective for new impuls, expecially in social work.
