Resumo: The organization is an activity house for psychiatric patients / psychologically vulnerable, psychiatric patients who are alcoholics or abuser of medicin, and others who need a place to meet and to be with other people.

In the activity house we have many different types of visitors. Generally speaking there are 50% with a psychiatric diagnosis, 30% are abusers of alcohol, hashis or medicine and 20 % are lonely people – many of them having a depression. Many of the visitors will suffer from a combination of these problems. The ages ranges between 20 to 75 years old, but most are between 35 and 55 years old – there are both men and women, few of them have another ethnic background than the Danish. An average week we would have 60-70 different people visit us – in all we will have 90 visitors in total. Some visit us on a regular basis several times a week, others come quite seldomly.

In the organization the visitors can come without the interference of the authorities and they can be anonymous. They can come right in from the street if they feel lonely and want to be together with others, or to join our activities. The number of visitors is increasing – this is mainly because we have time to talk with each one of them and that many like to join the activity groups since they are organised in small groups with a teacher.

We want to stress that we do no specific therapeutical work or treatment with them. Keywords are presence and being together.
The organization is situated in a small house with our own garden in walking distance (15 minutes) from the center of the town/ the trainstation. We have two living rooms where we organize activities and just spend time together, a small kitchen, an office for the staff and a computer room in the basement. We have a nice garden with a terrace which we enjoy using during summertime.

Perfil: We are looking for a volunteer who is interested in working with people in a personal difficult situation. It is important to understand that the volunteer should not expect to be able to change their lives. We can light a candle and create joy in the moment. Improvement happens very slowly – or they do not happen at all.

Volunteer must be quiet, patient and tolerant, be mentally and psychologically well-balanced. Like to talk and be curious to learn about and understand other people. Good spirits are necessary to bring in the lift in energy level the visitors need.
Volunteer must speak good English and be good at non-verbal communication, since many of our visitors do not speak English. Willingness to learn Danish fast is essential, to be extrovert and take initiative in creating contact to the visitors important.

It would be an advantage if the volunteer has some special talents within creative, sports, handcraft or other areas.
Hence many of our visitors are smokers and smoking is done inside the house, the volunteer must be able to be in a room with smoke.
The organization is open to any European nationalitya and for both gender.
Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: In our project the volunteer will have have the possibility to learn how to be and work with people with different mental and social problems. S/he will learn about different psychiatric diagnosis, reasons for abuse and their reactionpatters, social problems and their effect on the individual. Communication skills will be trained, and the volunteer will have the possibility to plan and run activities according to interest and special talents. The volunteer can join in on creative teaching classes and thus learn also creative and hobbyactivities.

The volunteer will be offered relevant courses and training. We organise two annual weekendtrainings for our Danish volunteers, and all are offered to join courses organised by eg. psychiatric institutions for free. The themes for the trainings could be communication, psychiatric deseases, conflict managing etc. Most trainings will be organised in Danish, so the volunteer most speak at least some to able to benefit from them. Some trainings will be in English.

We will have a staffmeeting once a months and we have private gatherings for the staffingmembers where the volunteer of course will be invited. Excursions and participation in creative classes will be paid by us. Outside working hours, but within the opening hours of the house the volunteer can use the internet.

We will assist the volunteer in creating a personal network in the community. We will help out with learning the language and do whatever we can to make the volunteer feel welcome.

25% Activities like creative hobbies, sportactivites, bowling, excursions out of the house.
