Resumo: The organization is located in a small town, in the north eastern part of Italy. On the premises you find an indoor riding hall, boxes, an outdoor riding ring, the main building with the office and home to the volunteers, a separate creative activities room, everything surrounded by a well kept garden.

The town centre itself, a historical town with a medieval centre, is only 4-5 km from the riding school. There are a number of activities in the town itself (sports facilities, Italian school for foreigners etc.), but most of the social activities take place in Pordenone (60.000 inhabitants ca.): cinema's, theatre, sport events, exhibitions, library, mediatec etc. There are many opportunities for those who look for an active cultural, sportive and social life. Pordenone can be reached by bus or by bike (which is available) in max. half an hour.

The riding school is located in a quiet green area, with the closest supermarket at less than 500 mt distance. There is another organisation (ANFASS - Pordenone) at only a few km distance which hosts up to 5 European Volunteers allowing our volunteers to be in touch with numerous other volunteers coming from many different European countries. This exchange is very positive because the volunteers can enlarge their acquaintance during the various stages of their service.

In Pordenone there is an interesting organisation, the Casa dello Studente, which offers various cultural activities, many of which free of charge, like exhibitions of minor artists, conferences etc. We are in touch with them also during the international stage they organise for foreign students to study the Region from the touristic/cultural point of view. This stage lasts 3 weeks and a great number of cultural and social activities are organised which are open to the community.

From Pordenone one can reach Venice or Trieste in about one hour by train and Udine and Treviso in half an hour. All these cities are of great historical and cultural interest and are worth visiting. There are also many other minor towns in the Region that can be reached with public transport (bus) and which are worth visiting. We offer the volunteers the possibility to visit the main cultural sites in the area (within 250 km), reimboursing them 8-12 train trips during an 8-12 months service.
The volunteers will participate to all the meetings and training sessions organised by the National Agency. These meetings are particularly important on arrival because the volunteers meet other people who live a similar experience and they can create a network of volunteers in the surrounding with whom to keep contact during their service. Moreover on arrival training is particularly important for the intensive Italian course which helps the volunteers to make a big improvement in a short time.
On the premises you find the main building with a bedroom for two volunteers (with private washbasin), a bathroom with shower, washingmachine etc., a small kitchen and a living room with television, the office and waiting room. Some of these areas are also used by the staff and riders during working hours.
The organisation will provide for language training through a school in the town itself where regular classes of Italian for foreigners are held at all levels.

Both the language and the specific activities concerning horse training etc. are intensified in the period after arrival so that after ca. a month the volunteers can become acquainted with the organisation and be an integral part of it.
Since the volunteers are hosted at the premises, there are certain rules and conditions that are to be respected such as keeping order in their own room but also in the common area's, respect the activities that are being organised at the facilities, even if they are not directly connected to the voluntary activities etc. The rules (of which a copy is handed over to each person) are discussed on arrival and generally they only require common sense and responsability.
The organisation will provide for a tutor who will be there for any personal, practical or other problem. The tutor and volunteers will analyse the programme and the tasks and discuss them together.

Thanks to the presence of our horses, the living "instruments" of our work, horse riding for disabled people can be considered a global therapeutical practice: it is very stimulating and motivating for both the disabled rider and his/her teacher or assistant. Moreover it is a non-verbal therapy which can be considered an important learning opportunity because it requires close and attentive observation and the development of skills which will always be useful in future life and work. Animals, disabled people and children in general also require strict discipline and those who work with them will have to be an example for them. This means that a certain discipline is always required in this kind of surrounding and it helps young people learn where to stand and what to do (or not to do!).
The volunteers will learn about running a special riding school and therapeutical riding (our organisation is involved in creating the new regulations for pet therapy for our Region), how to relate with disabled people (riders or workers), the importance of team work, the many activities one can organise (like summer activities, equestrian vaulting, special events etc.).

All people can find their place in the organisation, creating their own space with new proposals and observations. Both the volunteer and the organisation will benefit from such in interactive approach.

Perfil: The activities of the organisation are basically multi-disciplinary, which means that the staff and other people interact with eachother. The volunteer will therefore have the opportunity to work with different people and to partecipate to the various meetings concerning programming and follow-up meetings of the activities (as soon as the language skills are sufficient).

The organisation tends to make the volunteer feel responsabile for his/her tasks, assigning tasks that fit each single person according to his/her personal capacities and attitude. Time and resources will be given in order to develop these personal projects.
The volunteers we would like to host are young people who have a strong motivation to go abroad and learn about a new culture and about a particular approach to disability through working with animals.

We expect the volunteers to be willing to learn from the new situation in which they will find themselves and live the challenging experience of integrating in a culturally new surrounding.
It is important that the volunteers are aware of the fact that they will live in a small community and work with disabled people. They should be patient and resistant to psychological stress and ready to help with a smile!

Since ours is a mostly outdoor activity with people but also a lot with animals, the volunteers should love animals, but no specific experience with horses is required (if the volunteer has experience, this will ofcourse help!), enjoy outdoor life and physical activity.
It is important for the volunteers to know that they will either be the only volunteer or work and live together with one other European volunteer.
age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The volunteer will help with the various activities of the organisation, giving extra value to the work we carry out with numerous disabled people, but he/she will not take the place of any of the operators.

The main tasks are:
" help to groom and prepare the horses for the riding sessions;
" help with the daily training of the horses for the specific work with disabled riders;
" help during the riding sessions by leading the horse and with equestrian vaulting classes;
" partecipate in the various activities with the disabled people and children, with the possibility of particular responsabilities (for example preparing and organising games or exercises, grooming the horses together with the disabled people etc.);
" help in the various other activites of the organisation (shows, competitions, fairs, organisation of birthday parties and other events);
" partecipate in the working activities of our disabled helpers (keeping the (vegetable) garden, daily taking care of the paddocks and boxes, making pizza for groups of disabled people or children ;
