Resumo: Environment and local community: The organization is situated in the one of the the largest city of Armenia and one of the world's oldest continuously-inhabited cities. Situated along the River. The city is the administrative, cultural, and industrial centre of the country. It has been the capital since 1918, the thirteenth in the history of Armenia. In the city there are about 1.3 million inhabitants. The city is located in a Valley, from where the mountain is seen which is the symbol of Armenia (you can find information about mountain and Ark of Noah in Bible). Armenia is considered to be one of the mono-national countries in the world.
The organisation usually works 5 days a week (Monday-Friday), in case of need the office is opened on Saturday and Sunday as well. The organization is opened for all the interested youngsters. Currently one of the main targets of the organization are EVS projects. There are some local projects held by UY: seminars, consultant meetings with local volunteers in the city and in the regions of Armenia, campaigns, hiking, etc. The EVS volunteers hosted by UY from other countries usually are involved in the work of the organization.
Accommodation: The volunteer usually lives in a rented flat, where there is a bed for each volunteer (with sheets and blanket furnished), a small kitchen and a bathroom which he/she should be ready to share lodging with other volunteer if there is a need. The flats are not in the centre of the city and the volunteer should take a transport to get to his/her working place.
Working hours and holydays: The volunteer works 6 hours a day for 5 days a week. S/he will have 2 days off in a week: on Saturday and on Sunday. Every month the volunteer has 2 days holiday for whole project period. S/he may save these days and use these off days together. Weekends: Volunteer is free to spend this time on his/her own wishes and preferences, free for sightseeing and taking part in cultural activities. All national and church holidays are supposed to be free for the volunteer.
Allowance and local transports: The volunteer will receive pocket money, money for food and for local transport.
Youthpass: During the project the volunteer hosted by UY should fill in his/her Youthpass certificate online and at the end of his/her project will receive Youthpass with the stamp and signatures by the representatives of the organization.
Perfil: We would welcome a tolerant, open minded and motivated person with creative ideas, who likes spending time with young people. The volunteer should have basic English and computer skills. S/he should have an ability to get in contact easily with young people. We are searching for a person with deep interest in youth culture.
We would like to meet volunteers giving them chance to develop individual skills, experience, to engage the volunteer to learn Armenian traditions, religion, customs, practice, history, architecture, art, language, kitchen, to teach to work, support people who need help. Further we are looking for a flexible person, willing to work independently but also in a team.
We are open to cooperate with any NGOs from European countries. We would like to work with disable people as well but till now the organization hasn't had any experience in that field.
Tarefas: What we can offer to volunteers in terms of Service and learning opportunities:
- The volunteer will participate in different outdoor activities: hiking, summer and winter camps. The volunteer will meet the local youth and discuss the cultural heritage.
- Adaptability and coping with new challenges, working in a team with colleagues, sharing responsibility for living and working together with a multi-national team.
- Developing cultural awareness of each other's needs in a multi-cultural environment. Obtaining skills how to interact and integrate foreign culture.
- Communicating, socialising and negotiating in a second language (Armenian).
- Obtaining skills how to be an active member of a community
The role of EVS volunteers in our organisation: the volunteer will be an important person in the organization who will:
- Carry out and lead the office issues as competent members of the organization
- Organize creative workshops
- Give languages lessons
- Do activities with youngsters
- Spend time with young people in the office
The activities in which the volunteers could be involved and the activities the volunteers could create in our organisation:
The volunteer will provide support, but we want the volunteer to ultimately require less assistance, carrying out jobs both independently and with the other members. S/he may participate in informative - events concerning "Youth in Action" and "European Volunteer Service" in Armenia and also abroad if there is any event. For the start of the service s/he will be introduced to his/her duties by the team. The volunteer will be given opportunity to make presentations about his/her own culture, interests.
