Resumo: The project will take place in Panevezys city which is the 5th of the biggest cities in Lithuania. Panevezys is situated in the middle of Lithuania; it is halfway between two Baltic capitals - Vilnius and Riga. Volunteers would live in Panevezys city and every day go to school ussing public transport, bike or walk on foot. As the city is not big, public service of transport is very good and bicycle track net is very well developed too. Panevezys has 130 000 inhabitants and is famous for its cultural life. In Panevezys we have four theatres, art and photo galleries, university, college.
Perfil: We would like to have a volunteer who is active and friendly with children. He/she should know how to deal with kids and love them. Another important thing is also creative work and playing with children. We are willing to have some different intercultural experience. Also volunteer will have a possibility to spend time in coordinating organization together with its members and local youth. Also he/she will have some free time. The selection of volunteers will be made by hosting organisation and a responsible person. Volunteer will have a tutor (a person from the staff of school) and a mentor (from members of coordinating organisation). We expect to host 2 volunteers at a time.
Tarefas: "School is opened five days a week. From Monday to Friday. Work day starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 5.00 p.m. Volunteer will start activities at 10 a.m. and stay until 4.00 p.m. In the beginning the volunteer will have adaptation period (two weeks) with straight day schedule and mostly will assist the group leaders, teachers. Later she/he will take on responsibility - as far as admitted by legal liabilities. 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. activities in class and after school groups, help for teachers. Volunteers will work alongside qualified members of staff as a supernumerary assistant. Volunteers will help the staff to assist the children and groups in learning and carrying out the activities. He/she will work with the 1-4 form children (children with speech disorder including) as well as with 5-10 form schoolchildren. Volunteers will work with groups, alone or in a leading capacity but always alongside the staff in the capacity of an assistant. From 1:00 a. m. until the end of a day - different activities and own projects (learn others that you know best). Our suggested schedule: Monday- dance club (classical dance, pop dance, and etc.) Tuesday- sport club (basketball, football, table tennis and etc.). Wednesday- song club (chorus, jazz, karaoke) or musical instrument club (guitar, piano, drums and etc.).
Thursday- language club. Friday- table games and movies club. Volunteers could develop their own ideas putting new games, activities or stories into a personal projects (clubs) if they so wished - creative ideas are always welcome. The main task is to give a good example in the way we do our work so that the children can copy us and help the children to get into imaginative and creative play. Like all members of the staff volunteers are expected to carry out some work of routine such as: · preparing of group rooms for work · cursory cleaning at the end of work · maintenance of toys and working materials What volunteers will get from this project? During the project we will focus on communication (communicating effectively with diverse audiences, listening actively to others), self awareness (showing appropriate belief in own abilities, displaying awareness of own strengths and weaknesses, considering the consequences of own actions, being honest about own motives and aspirations), awareness of others (showing understanding of others' feelings, showing respect for the opinions of others, showing sensitivity to others' needs, promoting respect for others in group), developing others (helping others to improve their performance, encouraging people to do their best, inspiring trust and confidence in others, actively contributing to others' learning and development). We are expecting that volunteer will gain technical and vocational skills in child care. The cooperation in a social project will offer the volunteer a vocational orientation and a perspective for the professional life. Having the responsibility for designing and realisation of leisure facilities will enhance self-assurance and self-confidence of the volunteer. Participation in internal professional development activities will provide the volunteer with specific knowledge of the educational system. Integration in a foreign culture and the self-determined life of the local community will afford the volunteer a personal orientation and increase the development of future perspectives. Volunteers will have possibility to see different places of Lithuania when they go to trips with children."
