Resumo: The volunteers will live and work in the city. The city is one of the federal states in the east of Germany, and the biggest city in this federal state. The city has 220 000 inhabitants. It is a very old city, located on the river Elbe. Unfortunately a large part of the city was destroyed during the Second World War, so that most of the beautiful architecture was lost.

The city developed into a centre for heavy industry during the last century. Due to the economic changes resulting from the German reunification a lot of the factories were unfortunately closed. Like other cities in East Germany, the city has a high rate of unemployment, which causes social tension and problems, par-ticularly in those parts of the city which were built in the 60ties and 70ties.

During the last years the number of students at the universities has steadily increased. The cul-tural life in the city is also very rich and active: theatre and cabaret offer an interesting and constantly changing repertoire, and there are a lot of museums and galleries as well as different cultural activities that you can visit.

Perfil: We are looking for curious and open-minded volunteers who can work creatively, independently and flexibly. They should be interested in cultural, historical and political backgrounds, enjoy working in a small team and have the right social skills to engage in project work with young and, in some cases, disadvantaged participants. In addition, the volunteers should be interested in cultural and media pedagogy, which also implies a willing-ness to test themselves in this area and to be trained, even if they have no previous experience.
It is also necessary to enjoy working with members of different cultures, religions and educational back-grounds. We would therefore be happy to receive open, tolerant and eager-to-learn volunteers who want to expand their horizons and who have the necessary sensitivity to deal with the respective categories.

As international youth projects do not always fit into the standard categorisation of workdays and weekends, the volunteers will at times have to work for longer than five days. It is therefore advantageous if the volun-teers regard this style of working positively and take their days off after the particular project concerned.

Experience in the area of political and intercultural educational work, photography or modern communication and public relations work are advantageous, but are not essential.
The description of the project is available on a public database that is open to all interested young people. The information about our hosting project has also been communicated via our partners in Europe.

Interested young people can contact us directly or though our partners. During the selection process we will challenge in particular the motivation for the voluntary service, the expectations with regard to our project and the applicant's own wishes and interests for his/ her learning experience. Together we will examine together whether the wishes and the interests of the young person are compatible with the objectives and possibilities of our EVS project, and will develop a mutually agreed-upon plan for tasks and position profile.
During the selection process young people who have already worked in common international youth projects with our partners will be favoured.
Age: 18 until 30 years old

Tarefas: The project”Live and learn in the one-world house” is an opportunity to get involved in the long-term devel-opment of our youth projects and to explore diverse fields of activity.
The long-term individual stay in a foreign country includes a multitude of intercultural learning experiences that shape personality development. Through the work in the different areas of activity we would like our vol-unteers to strengthen their so-called soft skills in the form of independent work and demeanour, teamwork skills and cooperation and empathy and understanding for others, etc. At the same time language skills and country-specific knowledge about Germany are passed on, which can lead to an improvement in later career prospects.
Experiencing these diverse activities opens new perspectives and emphasises the importance of tolerance, democracy and intercultural learning as well as active participation in our society and its European context.
Through their work the volunteers obtain knowledge and professional skills in the field of international youth work and within the intercultural education sector. By working in concrete projects they also become familiar with the organisation and management of projects. Specific knowledge can be acquired in the areas of public relations and design of print media and web pages. On request we also offer the chance to take part in educa-tion events such as workshops, seminars and training courses run by AGSA, its member organisations or part-ners.
The wishes and interests of the volunteers are central, particularly their right to learn. Taking into account the requirements of the particular field of work, a specific project plan is developed and agreed upon with the young person. During the year each young person is expected to independently develop and carry out a per-sonal project.
An initial area of activity for the volunteers is the involvement in projects on European variety and on participa-tion and involvement in Europe. The European volunteers organise our Language Café, a meeting-point for learners and native speakers in the one-world house that emphasises linguistic variety and takes place twice a month. Other intercultural and European activities (cinema, workshops own created exhibitions) offer the chance to use the intercultural background of all volunteers and to gain the cooperation with our membership organisation. The organisation of the volunteers’ "Stammtisch" (regular meeting) brings former, current and future volunteers together every month. Here concrete ideas for involvement in civil society initiatives are developed (Mile of Democracy against Right-Wing Extremism, Intercultural Week, Refugee Day and also Europe Week etc.). Tasks include:
- Continual organisation of the Language Café, a meeting of and for native speakers and learners (every two weeks)
- Development and Implantation of new intercultural und European activities in the one world house in coop-eration with all European volunteers in the ciy
- Reaction and development of the interactive exhibition "Chance Europa" and the organisation of information sessions and workshops based on the exhibition in one world house, schools and youth organisations
- Involvement in the development of concrete actions in civil society (see above)
Another possible field of work is the participation in campaigns, informative meetings and fairs, as well as the production of materials for these events. It is also possible to work in AGSA’s PR division, where the young people can get involved in producing publications, documentations, press reviews or photographic documen-tations. Tasks include:
- Orientation to aims and content of these activities, research
- Drafting and creating informational materials, flyers, posters and publications
- Participation in information events, educational fairs and campaigns
- Development and implementation of informational activities in the form of workshops
In the field of international youth work it is possible for the volunteers to support the preparation and imple-mentation of youth encounters, training courses and seminars; as part of these activities it is intended that the young people develop their own programme components.
Tasks include:
- Supporting the preparation of application forms, cultivating contact with partner organisations and the ex-change of information
- Participation in the programme development and implementation, particularly through the implementation of the young people’s own programme components in the area of intercultural education and European con-sciousness
- Involvement in the organisational planning and implementation of the project
- Participation in the evaluation process
- Supporting the development of documentations and presentations on the web (in cooperation with another volunteer and with young people doing work experience)
Volunteers can also get involved in designing our website and keeping it up-to-date, as well as in the creation of documentations and videos of our youth exchanges, training courses and voluntary projects; expert training and guidance is guaranteed at all times. Tasks include:
- Editorial responsibility for our web portal, keeping it up-to-date on a daily basis, actively involving all volunteers
- Supervising the interactive areas for young people;using social networks and other new forms in the world wide web
- Internet research on design possibilities and ideas, keeping existing websites up-to-date and designing per-sonal ideas, particularly as web documentation of the Eurocamp and of our volunteer projects.

A final field of work is the cultivation of contacts and inclusion of former participants of youth encounters, training courses and seminars and also former volunteers. If the volunteers so wish, it would also be possible for them to develop their own projects with our partners also in the backround of town twinning; expert guidance and organisational support would be constantly guaranteed.

All of these activities are based on the volunteers’ interests and desires, and are regularly reviewed together and, if necessary, adjusted or corrected.
