Resumo: The organization is located in a city of Slovakia. It has a population of about 431,000 and is the country’s largest city.

The city is the political, cultural, and economic centre of Slovakia. It is the seat of the Slovak president, the parliament, and the executive branch of the government.
It is home to several universities, museums, theatres, galleries and other important cultural and educational institutions. Many of Slovakia's large businesses and financial institutions also have headquarters there.

The city is situated in south-western Slovakia. Its location on the borders with Austria and Hungary makes it the only national capital that borders two countries. It is only 62 kilometres from the border with the Czech republic, and only 60 kilometres from Vienna.

The city has continental climate with four distinct seasons. The city is in one of the warmest and driest parts of Slovakia. Recently, the transitions from winter to summer and summer to winter have been rapid, with short autumn and spring periods. Snow occurs less frequently than previously. It is often very windy in the city.

The organization where the volunteers will be placed, is located on a beautiful hill overlooking the Danube River!

Perfil: All young people have the potential to work in our organisation and make a contribution. We would very much appreciate volunteers who are fond of working with young people (19 - 24) and are open minded and willing to learn new skills. Teaching experience or education in this area would be of great help. As the main contribution of the volunteer will be in language improvement, good speaking skills are expected.
Recruiting is done by the representative of the organisation Ecumenical Council of Churches in Slovakia. ECCSR is a member of EDYN-Ecumenical Diaconal Year Network with other 17 organisations from 15 countries which cooperates under common standards. Every year ECCSR has an opportunity to attend Interview events/Discernment events for recruiting volunteers where the coordinator meets personally all candidates. ECCSR try to focus on finding out what each young person has to offer.

Personalizing the recruitment efforts proved to have much more effective approach than launching a mass recruiting campaign or trying to find the best volunteer. In recruiting ECCSR try to talk individually with each candidate about his/her gifts, talents, skills and passions, trying to find the motivation and the best match with the hosting placement as possible.

Tarefas: Upon arrival, the volunteers will have a chance to get acquainted with general structure and activities of Comenius University, the organizationand in particular our Language Department.

The volunteers will meet the project coordinator who will discuss all the possibilities of engagement in different activities. According to individual skills, educational background, talents and preferences, the coordinator and the volunteers will agree on the content and schedule of activities.

The emphasis will be on work with young people - the students of our Faculty. The volunteers can work in our self access centre, where students not only borrow books but also spend their leisure time. The volunteers might have the role of consultants and assist students with language tasks – depending on mother tongue of the volunteer. We are also planning to start several clubs of interest, e.g. a film club, an intercultural club and/or a discussion club. The film club would enable the volunteers to present movies from their country of origin, and each watching would be followed by a discussion about lifestyle, culture, customs and traditions.

The intercultural club could become a forum for interesting discussions on intercultural topics. The objective of the literary club would be reading and analyzing short stories, poems and novels by German, English and Slovak writers.
Discussion club offers an opportunity for students to formulate their own opinions in a foreign language, i.e. in mother tongue of the volunteer.

Depending on their capabilities, the volunteers can be personally involved in developing additional free-time activities with the support of our department.
The volunteers are also expected to be assistant teachers of their native tongue under the supervision of an experienced department teacher.

The volunteers will be seated in an office and will have access to PC and the internet.
They will be able to dine in the canteen and a very reasonably priced accommodation can be arranged for them in student hostel Druzba.
