Resumo: The volunteers will be hosted in the city and will run most of their activities within the different Support and Social Assistance Centres and 2 surrounding communities. All Social Care institutions are subordinated to the General Direction for Social Assistance and Child Protection, institution that signed a partnership agreement with the organization for the development of volunteer activities.

The project is focused both on the volunteers’ personal and professional growth but also towards the improvement of the target group situation – socially assisted persons.

According to each volunteer’s skills and interest they will contribute to the development of a diverse set of activities: information campaigns; art, music, dancing, drama, handcrafts workshops; foreign language non formal sessions; outdoor activities ( sport, camping, gardening, trips, etc); thematic discussions and seminars; intercultural events; administrative and office tasks.

Perfil: basic level of english and are open-minded regarding volunteer work (especialy working with youth from the rural areas). We will support the participation of all youngsters from 18 to 30 no matter their religion, social or economic status, gender or ethnic origin. Our structure does not have the capacity or infrastructure for welcoming disabled or health affected volunteers, but we will encourage the involvement and participation of such youngsters in the EVS projects that address this category of youths.

Tarefas: The role of the volunteers will be that of attending all the meetings, trainings and scheduled activities, dedicate their time according to the recommended hours in assisting in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of various activities:
Participate to the Pre-Departure Training and/or other pre-departure preparation meetings
Participate actively to the On Arrival and Capacity Building programme
Attend the Monthly, Mid Term and Final Evaluation Meetings
attend all language classes, participate in the class, learn and prepare accordingly.
prepare themselves for each meeting with the requested materials (for example: filling on time the monthly evaluation forms).
Participate actively and contribute to the organization and implementation of the Social Awareness Information Campaign.

Work together with the EVS team and support staff of General Direction of Social Assistance and Child Protection in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of the non formal education and outdoor activities
Offer their time, energy, skills and aptitudes in working with the social assisted persons (youngsters in particular) from the different subordinated units (centres) of the General Direction of Social Assistance and Child Protection:
Working with youngsters - helping with non-formal language conversations in English or in the volunteer's mother tongue; organize non-formal educational activities; particularly in the areas of arts/drama, crafts, sport, developing practical and social skills; cultural activities – intercultural evenings, cooking workshops, country and tradition presentations ; outdoor activities – gardening, cleaning, camping, sports, walks, etc.

Working with older people. Besides poverty and sickness, just as bad is the loneliness. You spend of your time socializing with the senior citizens located in Senior Citizens Houses. You will also work together on building an Organized Programme where senior citizens can receive visits from children from the foster houses, volunteers and pupils.
The volunteers can play bingo and other group games with the people hosted, can accompany them for a walk or help the staff in providing them with food. Other activities in the house can be: working together in the garden, assisting in therapy sessions.

Helping in the office: making copies, arranging files, sending faxes, answer phone, cleaning, etc.
Support the updating of the web platforms of the organization: select and edit relevant information materials, design, translate texts, etc.
Be innovative, participative, ready to help and share ideas;
Openly communicate with the mentor, his/her peer volunteers and the EVS implementation TEAM
Display a decent and common sense behaviour in relation to the youngsters and the hosting community in general

Contribute to the visibility of the project in the community, especially amongst the target group (youngsters) as well as the local actors (public administration, schools, media, etc)
Contribute to the dissemination and exploitation of the results achieved by the previous volunteers (make use of the methods and instruments left behind, make use of the EVS manuals, as well as continue and develop the initiatives launched by other volunteers).

Promote a positive and real image about the organization within the hosting community.
Be open minded, tolerant and cultural aware towards other volunteers and youngsters
Be responsible and meet one’s tasks accordingly.
