Resumo: The host activity will take place in the city, which is one pf the biggest cities of Macedonia, located on the northern part of Greece. The city is a really cosmopolitan and multicultural city, with a lot of choices in leisure activities for young people. There is a number of really considerable theatres, cinemas, as well as a variety of restaurants and cafeterias. The city has a very old history, from ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine period. As the city was the co-capital of Byzantine Empire, has many monuments from that period, a remarkable archaeological museum, an interesting museum of Byzantine civilization, as well as a number of other more specialized museums, with traditional art, sports etc. In the city there are two big state universities, a theological university, as well as a number
of colleges. More than 100.000 students of all areas and different nations live in the city. A number of cultural, sport and other organizations take place during the year.

The economic activity in the city centre is based on the third sector (services), while there is a number of economic activities based on the secondary sector (industries) around of the city. As one travels at a longer distance (more than 20kms) he/she can see agricultural activity.

Perfil: We would like to host volunteers who have a priority and wish to work and interact with persons with disabilities. Moreover, the receptivity in the approach of a different culture and of a foreign language, would be a good motive. (It would be useful for them to have a basic knowledge of the Greek language or motives to learn it). The volunteers should be flexible, courageous and independent. We are open to a collaboration with any sending organisation from abroad, even though knowledge and experience in the disability sector would be useful.

Therefore, the criteria of choice are:
The interest of the candidate for the activities and the programmes of the organization
The consistency and responsibility of the candidate
The motivation for cooperation
The experience of the sending organisation regarding disability
The inclusion in a vulnerable social group

The nationality, religion sexual orientation, political ideas etc are not included in the criteria. Moreover, a specific educational level experince,knowledge of greek language above the basic level are not required.

Age: 18-30 years old

Tarefas: The project concerns secretarial support in the office of ICR, research for workplaces for persons with disabilities, contribution in the coordination of groups with volunteers giving support to people with disabilities, updating of the website and of the e-magazine of ICR, contribution in organising research and educational programmes, and also in acts of social solidarity. The activities will take place at the office of ICR, in the city and will participate EVS volunteers, volunteers with and without disability of ICR from the city, as well as beneficiaries with disability. Volunteers will have the opportunity to negotiate with situations of the everyday life, like disability, unemployment, poverty, etc. and with the guidance of the members of ICR they will learn how to handle these situations. Also, they will learn about practical matters regarding the internet, as well as organising voluntary projects. Moreover, the volunteers will be occupied in the Supported Experiential Learning programme, in which persons with disabilities learn handicrafts and cultivation of agricultural products. Last, but not least, the volunteers will have the opportunity to assist persons with disabilities who live is an institution and accompany them in their leisure activities, while they will be involved in activities of ICR in the community.
