The city is mainly an economic centre, with many industrial and agricultural businesses, but the area also has a touristic potential (beautiful sites: mountains, hills and river banks; historical ruins, a salt mine, therapeutic mineral springs). The city offers an open, multicultural environment, with many cultural and leisure activities. Many of the villages surrounding the city are traditional and religious communities are open to foreigners.

The Province has a varied and picturesque landscape formed by the Eastern and by the hills with the valleys crossed by the rivers Bistrita, Trotus, Siren, Tazlău, Casin and Slanic, and is a major tourist attraction with spectacular scenery, art and historical monuments, memorial houses. It has a temperate climate, with soft winters and summers which are not very warm.

From the city begin five national roads and the city has an international airport and intercity trains that connect it to the other large cities in Romania. More information about the city.

Language Clubs – the volunteers will provide free language classes for the youngsters in the local community that cannot afford private tutoring. Each volunteer will teach her or his own language, and will also take care of promoting the club, with the support of the organization. The language clubs will get the locals in contact with methods of non-formal learning, as the volunteers will design the teaching schedule, and the lessons will not follow an official curriculum. Besides the usual grammar and vocabulary bits, the volunteers will also include cultural facts in their lessons, which will largely contribute to the cultural learning of the participants. Not only will the participants improve their language abilities, they will also get in contact with new cultures and will have the option to learn foreign languages that are not usually taught in schools.

Workshops – AZB offers a number of workshops for the youngsters in the local community, as an alternative way of spending the free time. The volunteers can choose to lead or take part in the already existing workshops or they can propose new ones, according to their skills. If their proposals are doable in the frame of the organization’s capacity, and the youngsters show interest, then the staff will offer their support and help the volunteers organize them. So far, AZB has organized creative workshops (face painting, origami, quilling,decoupage etc), self-development workshops (empathy and active listening, non-verbal language), traditional Romanian dances, theater plays.
Activities in schools and high schools – AZB has partnerships with several schools and high schools from the surrounding rural areas of the City. The task of the volunteers in these institutions is to take part in the foreign language classes( English, French, German, Spanish, Italian) and to help the teachers, especially with the reading and speaking part of the lessons. This activity is destined for the volunteers that have as mother tongue one of the languages mentioned before, or for those who are advanced users. Having a native speaker in the class, will greatly help the students in having a better grasp of the language and will get a direct insight in the culture of that particular country.

What is to be mentioned is the fact that the young volunteers who will come in Romania in 2013 will be directly involved in the development activity for the future ,,Youth center’’
This centre will have three important activity areas: the activity to inform youths, the activity to form and educate youths and the activity to offer direct counseling to youths, these being the pillars for the youth centre for which the volunteers will carry out their activity. The centre will organize multiple programmes and activities meant for youth interaction, inclusion, formation, education and development through culture, arts, non-formal education, informal and unconventional spaces for expression and through the social sharing activities. Also, part of the centre’s activity will be concentrated on the support for the social inclusion of youths from the countryside, by increasing the capacity of the computational systems and by educating them regarding self-informing. To this end, the volunteers will take part in the organisation and development of different activities that will take place inclusively in the 93 communes from the county.
Last but not least, we would like to mention that all these activities and opportunities mentioned here will be found as well in the future EVS projects which will be submitted for financing by our association.

By taking part in the activities mentioned above, the volunteers will gain the following competences:
- how to use their creativity in projects with and for teenagers and youngsters;
- how to work with children with fewer opportunities;
- how to teach their mother tongue;
- how to use non-formal methods of learning;
- how to plan leisure activities for youngsters;
- how to work in international teams;
- they will improve their social, communication and intercultural awareness.
The volunteers will choose a project that better suits their needs and skills. There is an option for them to be included in more than one project if the environment of each activity allows it. One of the important characteristics of the project consists of the fact that each volunteer will be challenged to organize his/her own schedule according to the activities chosen. This will help them gain time management skills.
Volunteers will have the chance to involve in all international activities he / she is interested in to participate. Volunteers will have the opportunity to contribute with their own knowledge and ideas to improve the activities of the association, learn about the participation of young people and create processes to improve the involvement of young people in aspects of their personal and professional development.
Through constant dialogue and meetings between young people from different backgrounds and cultures, the activities of the Association help prevent and fight against prejudice, racism and all attitudes that lead to the exclusion of the young people, especially young people with special needs.
The volunteers will have the opportunity to become familiar with the Romanian language and will be able to hold for the other volunteers and the youth in the community, a beginner course in their native language. The linguistic and cultural diversity will be promoted and the promotion of national values will be encouraged.
The volunteers will be involved in activities aimed at disseminating information on the project developed, its objectives, results, they will be involved in the production of informational or promotional materials, photos, press releases and the writing of articles for local newspapers, magazines, websites.

The tasks can vary from a volunteer to another (they are flexible), so that the volunteer could come up with new activities to promote international experiences for young people and also give feedback for the projects developed by AZB.The schedule will be between 09:00 – 15:00, 5 days per week.
