Resumo: The hosting organization is a Registered Charity, and a company limited by guarantee (number 3341420). Options for Life is the umbrella name for a non-profit making voluntary organisation which enables people with learning disabilities to advance their personal development and lead a full life within the community, using the support and friendship of volunteers. The organisation compliments and operates in partnership with other statutory and voluntary agencies.
The organisation provides a wide range of small, quality, innovative services for people with learning disabilities, and services are broadly split between day services for people with severe and profound learning disabilities, and support services for people with mild and moderate learning disabilities. We currently employ approximately 60-70 staff and benefit from the support of approximately 20 volunteers. The organisation has a budget of £1.5million per year, with the bulk of our funding coming from a range of contracts with the local authority. The rest of our funding comes by way of donations and grants from charitable trusts. In March 1999, Options for Life received the Investors in People award, having met national standards regarding the training and development of staff, and re-achieved this award in September 2003, November 2006 and March 2010. In April 2008, we were awarded the Investing in Volunteers award.
Options for Life is based in a town that covers an area of approximately 21,000 acres and has a population of approximately 294,000. 15% of people who live in the town are from ethnic minorities. People of different religions live side by side - Christian, Roman Catholic, Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, and Rastafarian, as well as many other religions. The city is a heavily industrial area, with 35% of all the city jobs in the manufacturing industry - almost twice the national average.
The city has a high rate of unemployment (approximately 7% of the population are unemployed). A quarter of all residents are dependent on state benefits.

Tarefas: We provide services for people with a wide range of learning disabilities. Services are broadly split between day services for people with severe and profound learning disabilities, and support services for people with mild and moderate learning disabilities. The overall theme of the project is the integration of people with learning disabilities into the local community, thus reducing their social exclusion, and supporting and enabling them to have the same opportunities as non disabled people. All of the organisation's services focus on developing service users' ability, self confidence, independence and self esteem. This is done by encouraging service users to participate in a variety of leisure and social activities.
EVS volunteers taking part in this project will work alongside staff and other volunteers to provide a varied and interesting programme of person-centred community based leisure and social activities for our service users. Duties may include escorting people on the minibus, supporting service users to enjoy their activities, assisting paid staff to provide personal care, administration tasks, preparing rooms for activities and clearing away after, enabling service users to take part in leisure activities on evenings or weekends, and taking part in holidays with service users.
