Resumo:
The hosting organization is a non profit, youth association, established in 2005 by a group of ex European volunteers and young volunteers, aiming at promoting universal values like solidarity, tolerance, and respect, through local, regional and international projects and so cover the lack of training and counselling regarding promotion of social values, volunteering, interculturality or mobility.

In September 2010 we move to an area with 3 secondary education centres. So it is very easy for young people to contact us for any suggestion of information need. Currently we have 2 staff members, 6 permanent volunteers and 12 volunteers for punctual actvities.

The activities
International: host and send volunteers, meetings and youth exchanges, work camps, cooperation projects,...
Local and regional: workshops, talks, trainings, activities (leisure, Euroepan awareness and international), collaboration with public and private entities, network of organisations,...

Our environment:
Tierras del Ebro is a region at the S of Catalonia and NE of Spain. They have an important natural and historical heritage: Natural Parks of the Ebro Delta and Los Puertos.

The town is the main cultural, commercial and financial centre of the region, but it is also located in a rural area, with olives, oranges, rice, dried fruits,... so in the past years many migrants have come from other countries looking for a job in the field or the construction. Currently, the town counts with about 36,400 inhabitants. 23% of them are migrants from about 100 different countries. 33% of the population are younger than 30 years (April, 2010).

Culture/language:
Our volunteering guide in our website includes more information about our region.

It is a rural area, so the most used language is Catalonian. Everyone speaks Castilian, but the possibility of attending Spanish language classes in the town are very few or at a very basic level. We offer volunteers the possibility of taking part in Catalonian language classes to enable their integration in the community and the project. We will also set them in contact with other young people to carry out language exchanges in the language they choose.

Accommodation:
In a shared flat with local students and/or workers and/or international volunteers, in the city or in the neighbour town. Volunteers will have a single room (in exceptional cases, this could be a room shared with another volunteer). Food: volunteers will buy and cook their food. If needed, cleaning rules will be established in the flat. The coordinating organisation is in charge of the payment of the flat rental, household expenses and administrative procedures.

Perfil: Volunteers: free of prejudices, dynamic, open to know people from different cultures, motivated to learn and teach, open, with initiatives and interested in social subjects, work with young people and children from different countries.
Basic Castillian (or English) skills are required to integrate easier and be able to communicate with users and staff. Official language here is Catalonian, though most people speak Castilian. Motivation to learn both languages is an asset.
We carry out the selection. Family, origin or education are not taken into account. There will be no kind of discrimination due to religion, age, sexual orientation or political views. We will try to alternate gender and country of origin in the different calls.
People with no prior experience abroad will be given preference. Candidates have to be active in the social and cultural world or in the world of organisations.

Tarefas: Tasks and activities:
They will participate in the regular activities of the organisation:
" organize and participate in cultural exchanges, work camps, youth educational workshops, treasure hunts with children, artistic, environmental, social and sport activities (preparing material, contact with participants or entities, support the leader of the activities, propose and lead workshops, ...),

Collaboration
The organization also collaborates with other associations of the town. To give more impact to the EVS project in the local community and to provide a variety of tasks, volunteers will be offered to participate in activities of other organisations we are in contact with. For example:
" Collaboration with Atzavara-Arrels
Ruqaya (2008) and Ümran (2009-2010) have been at half-time with the organisation Atzavara-Arrels, an organisation for the cooperation between cultures and the inclusion of people at risk of exclusion, to organise activities for girls and women who come to the centre to receive school support, Catalonian, Spanish or English language classes, English or computer classes or participate in craft workshops ... They have also helped to provide information and support to newcomers to the center.

Collaboration with Red Cross Youth
In 2007, Lisa was in the project "Care for Hospitalised Children" Youth Red Cross, within its actions for prevention and promotion of children's quality of life. It mainly consists on school support activities, leisure activities for children in hospital in process of diagnosis or treatment of diseases.

Collaboration with the Open Centre San Francisco

Role of volunteers
Volunteers will integrate in our team and participate in all stages of our projects and activities. One of our members will be the supervisor-trainer and will teach them how to use the needed tools, will provide training and information about the projects, supervise their work and supervise their personal project.
Volunteers will only get appropriate tasks, according to their will and skills. They can also be responsible for some punctual activity with another member. This may give them security, capacity of adaptation and leadership and other skills.
Supervising meeting: once a week, to evaluate activities, plan activities of the following week, evaluate the evolution of the project, take suggestions into account, see difficulties,...

Personal project
According to their time, budget and availability of local volunteers or supervisor for support, they may carry out a personal project.
Example of projects already carried out by volunteers:
" o exchange of postcards between boys and girls at risk of social exclusion living in the town and young people from Turkey.
" Making a blog about the procedure for obtaining a visa from Turkey
" Creating a story for children
" o Interviews to local people about immigration
" play about the situation in Palestine (not done yet)

Learning opportunities - skills that volunteers can acquire or develop
Castilian or Spanish language, culture of Catalonia (and the Tierras del Ebro)
Learn to communicate before different publics in different situations
Learn the reality of the area, the integration policies of various associations and the dynamics of implementation of these through workshops to encourage public participation and awareness about equality, as well as networking with other entities.
Learn how to develop and implement an initiative, being responsible for their personal project, which may be developed at any time. Lead some workshops, value acceptance and value the most convenient elements for the public.
Participate in language exchanges and workshops with local youth and contact with the different nationalities in the town will give them personal wealth, which will help them to know how to deal with people and broaden their knowledge.
