Resumo: The organization is based in a town with about 230,000 inhabitants and is located in Saxony-Anhalt, approximately 30 km to the west of Leipzig. The university has formed the town with its cultural and social life. There are several theatres, cinemas, pubs, libaries, bathhouses and clubs. Situated next to the river Saale, it is a wonderful place to walk, relax and enjoy nature.
At the same time, there is a high unemployment rate coming from the changes since 1989 and a considerable part of the younger generation lacks perspectives.
Social segregation is characteristic to the town; the organization is located in the "South", that is, a residential area, characterized by high unemployment and families relying on social support. There are several schools in that area, including special schools for disadvantaged people. Apart from school, there are few cultural offers for the kids to spend their free time (except for a library).
Perfil: The volunteer should be able to work independently and to develop ideas for his/her own.
Basic knowledge in the german language would be helpfully as well as experiences in working with children and young people.
gender: no requirements, age: over 18 years until 30 years old, PC-Knowledge is an advantage but no must.
Tarefas: Volunteer will usually work in the afternoon from Monday to Friday. The start of the work will be usually between 10:30 and 12:30, but this can vary and depend on the timeframes of the activities carried out in the late afternoon or evening times. Seldom, there can be exceptions for working at the weekends because of special events. In these cases, the volunteer will always get a compensation day or half day off, when working extra hours outside his/her usual schedule.
Volunteer will support the social worker in the work with the children during the open free play time as well as during specific activities or events. The volunteer should be able to work independently and to develop ideas on his/her own.
Basic knowledge in German language would be helpful as well as experiences in working with children and young people.
After her/his arrival and first weeks of getting to know the place and the organization, the volunter will make an action plan together with work mentor in order to decide which activities she/he would like to support or facilitate.
Volunteer will carry out an own project on the topic of European diversity together with the EVS volunteer who will be in the youth center.
